I have a spare 18" Austin Alloy Wheel with a practically new looking tyre. The Wheel was originally on the back of my GTI for a almost a year (I do low mileage). The reason it is now a spare is due to the wheel being badly chipped and with not having a spare I decided to buy another wheel so I could have a spare wheel for the future. The tyre on the wheel has had a slow puncture which has been repaired at a tyre fitters.
The question I want to answer is, if the tyre has been repaired is it safe to put the spare wheel on the front of the car? Or do I have to have the tyre replaced before thinking about placing the spare wheel anywhere near the front of my car?
Hope you guys can answer my question, I have scoured the internet with no luck finding an answer.
The reason i ask is, I am going in to the VW dealer on the weekend to have one of my front wheels repaired/refurbed, long story on another thread. However I have said I would like to put the spare on the front of my car so I can leave the damaged wheel with them to get repaired. But I am unsure if it is safe to put a wheel with a repaired tyre on the front of my car.

I'd do it, as a short term measure there shouldn't be a problem. The tyre has been repaired so it should be able to be used as any other. What I wouldn't do is keep it on long term as you really want matched tyres across an axle.

It will only be on for a short term. I plan on replacing the refurbed wheel back on ASAP. Hopefully it should only be a few days. But I do have to do two fairly long trips of up to 50 miles on dual carriageway. to get to and from the VW dealer. apart from that I have very short trips of less than a mile most of the time. Why walk when you have a GTI.

If the repair was carried out by a bona fide tyre centre then it will be as safe to use anywhere on the car as a new tyre would be.

Thanks for the heads up guys. I have never had a puncture or repaired tyre on the front of a car before, always the back luckily. Just want to be safe and sure before I place the spare on the front of my GTI. Will make swapping wheels over a lot easier now when i get the damaged wheel refurbed by VW dealer.
