Title: upgraded clutch

My clutch started slipping so upgraded to Sachs performance + flywheel as have stage 1 & now I have to give it lots of throttle when reversing & it feels like its ready to stall, but in 1st its very sensitive on the biting point which I expected.

I also notice a bit of smell,,have only done 15 miles.

Is this all normal or should I be concerned?

like brakes the clutch has to bed in and flatten off, this is most likely where your smell comes from.
Take it easy for 100 miles or so until its all settled down.

Thanks Bush it is gradually improving.

I have ordered a clutch stop as the clutch is so high now...See if improves my driving  :whistle:

Sounds odd..

For future reference, i can supply Helix clutches and they are well known to be the favourable choice over Sachs. I have one myself, in my Mk6 GTI and running 376bhp & 380lb/ft.

Good man. If you aint capable of doing a turbo yourself, you should buy the Revo turbo and the APR software, thats the cheapest way.

Im going to wear this clutch in 1st see how it go's But definitely plan to upgrade.

At the moment the clutch still judders, specially when you are reversing & have to keep riding the clutch & giving lots of throttle. And then you get a burning smell.

Am told this should go away once worn in. I have done 100 miles so far.

Fingers crossed then mate. It wasnt a paddle clutch?

Its weird though, because a Helix organic clutch is 100% perfect from the word go. Including 2 Ive ran myself.

I've just installed a Sachs racing clutch (4 puck un-sprung) recently and have to say it's holding up very well with 6000rpm launch (500bhp+ and 420ft-lb), the bite is appreciably more aggressive than standard or sport clutch, but it's very useable and I've been using it as my daily so far with no trouble at all. The biting point is more or less where you expect it to be, which for me is about half way.

As for bedding in procedure, I've always tried to keep to 100mile run in, with the majority of it being stop and start traffic ideally, engaging and disengaging the clutch.
