Title: Is the new R32 too cheap?
Post by: PassRatGT on 24 September 2005, 17:40
Hey guys do you think VW have maybe shot themselves in the foot with the new R32 being £23,750.
Whats a new GTI say with leather, around 21 ish

Have they made the price too close to to the new GTI?
Given the choice I know which one i'd rather have!

I think the GTI is a bit expensive, the R32 about right it's about 1k cheaper than an A3 3.2 Quattro Sport
btw.

I can't see the R32 being 24k because aren't they normally fully loaded ? For example, when I did the order for a mk5 GTI on whichever website it was (cant remember now) and I played about with the colours, DSG and trim etc I think it came out at something like 27.5k !  So if the R32 is 24k then it's cheap in comparison and I know which I'd rather have too.

GTi should be around £18500/19000 max imo.

R32 is just about right. although Golfs are the best cars ever made anything over £23k is ridiculous to pay for a Golf imo.

so you are paying 3750 for 4wd, an extra 50bhp and those 18's. the rest of the spec is pretty much mk5 gti. pricing seems about right to me :)

Includes xenons and rain sensitive wipers too.

I think its bloody good value for money.

Does make the std GTi look a little pricey, but remember, these VW's have the best residuals going, so on first impression they seem expensive when compared to, say, the VXR astra, but in three years and 50k miles, its predicted to be worth £3-4k more - total cost of ownership is actually lower.

Ya see perhaps the GTi is too expensive?

VW seem to have released the new R32 quicker than the mk4 one wasn't the Mk5 nearly out by the time they released it? Maybe thats what makes the GTi/R32 seem so close in price?
Perhaps VW will lower the price of the GTI when it comes out.....we can all live in hope eh?

VW seem to have released the new R32 quicker than the mk4 one wasn't the Mk5 nearly out by the time they released it?

This stems from the success of the original R32. VW sold twice as many as they had expected to, so when development was underway for the Mk5, an R32 model was planned for launch pretty much straight away, so they could captitalise on these sales for the whole of the Mk5 self life, not just the last couple of years like they did with the original one.

Evo's are japanese and therefore have horrible dashboards thats enough to put me off even if it is a very quick car

Do you know what, i would prob rather have a Mk4 R32 over an Evo, even though i do realy like Evo's! i Just love the Mk 4 R32

Not that keen on the MK5 version, dnt like the clio sport style exhausts and not keen on the wheels but i am sure it will grow on me!!
