Title: Cheap unregistered Mk7 GTI and GTD imports
Post by: J400uk on 28 September 2015, 20:34
Noticed earlier that Motorpoint seem to have a few imported Mk7s in stock at the moment going cheap. The GTD is £23k and GTI (PP) £24k. Appear to be 2016 spec cars with MIB II Discover Navigation, but lack some equipment like Xenons, driving mode select and adaptive cruise.

Thoughts?

I wonder if they point out that its an import and it's lower spec than the UK model.

Looking at the front end it reinforces how much better it looks with xenon lights.

Not worth it, you'd be able to get a UK model for a tiny bit more through a broker.

Same car through Orange Wheels is £24768, and it comes with proper headlights

I paid less than that for my MY16 GTI PP from a local dealer!

So they have taken the list price of the UK model, that includes the lights, nav, cruise etc, then added on the old cost of some of the extras to create a totally fake 'new cost'.

Bunch of tossers.

No adaptive cruise either...

And the satnav on the GTI looks like the old MIB1, as it still has the gloss frame round the screen.

The Drive Profile selector button also appears to be missing - top left next to gear lever.

Also no heated seats. Keyless looks to be missing.

I would hope that someone looking to spend that sort of money would research their purchase properly, but it would be interesting to go in as a potential customer and find out exactly how much they tell you about where the cars are from and the spec versus standard UK spec.

The GTI PP is apparently from Malta - meaning only a 2 year warranty as well (according to their sales guy I just chatted to).

In his defence he was up front about it when I asked.

I did point out that it was misleading to compare the price to a full UK spec car though.

2 year warranty - correct. Years 1 and 2 are VW Central, 3rd year is a UK network "dealership" warranty, it is a paid up 3rd year much like the extended warranties you can buy for years 4 and 5, only applicable to the country in which you bought the car. If the engine did blow up in year 3, it might be worth shipping the car back to Malta for 3rd year warranty work.

Wouldn't touch these imported cars unless they were getting sold for about £6k under list, and even then you'll be crucified if you trade these in at a VW garage.

For those who hate the red stripe through the headlamps - here's the perfect GTI for you!

It's funny how much more it looks like a MK6 GTI without the xenons

Irish GTI's had a miserable standard spec up until about 12 months ago. No xenons like in these cars and it looked "wrong"!

The GTD is a TSi in the pictures anyway.

The South African spec RHD GTi has some funny spec items missing to lessen the price. It sells well as a status symbol, spec seems irrelevant.
