Title: NickR's Candy White GTi
Post by: NickR on 26 September 2015, 10:27
Hi All, brand new to the forum.

Me and the wife just picked up our Mk6 on Thursday, absolutely love it, sadly I haven't had much time to drive and appreciate it yet due to work, but I'm looking forward to taking it for a nice spin and giving it its first good wash today.

Never thought we would buy a 5 door as we always used to turn our noses up to them, but after owning a Leon, we realised how practical it is having those extra doors.

Its the second one we saw, first being a black one in Sinclair Cardiff which wasn't in the best condition, this one has 40k, 1 owner and full VWSH and drives like new.

I have plenty in mind in terms of mods, but that will be down the road, for now I have some genuine GTi mats in transit and have a set of seat ratchet badges to go on.

Anyway, ill shut up now, and here's a pic of the new addition.

Very nice.White being best colour of course.
Is it manual or dsg?

Hi Mate,

The black one you looked at Sinclairs wouldn't happen to have around 80k miles, black leather(tear on bolster) and 18" monzas would it? Priced at approx £10,351.
If so, I actually put a deposit on that car and drove 180 miles each way to view. It drove OK, but needed some work. Not a bad price and was only 1 owner. What put me off was the lack of approved warranty and not having fvwsh. Also found out it had recently had a new clutch and injector.
Not thrilled with the dealership either.

It's a manual.

Wish it had xenons, but they seem a rather rare option sadly.

Yes, that's the one, the Interior was described as "mint" over the phone and in the video, when I pointed the chunk of leather missing out of the bolster, the salesman went a bit sheepish lol

Didn't even drive it, just wasn't for us.

Have you had any luck finding one?

Hi Nick,

Always good to have a new Mk6er join us. The car looks and sounds like a great example! I looked at over 10 before I found mine so on the second go is a bonus! I've really appreciated the extra doors on mine too, which Leon did you have previously?

I've also got the seat inserts and GTI mats, both are great additions to what is a lovely cabin already. Any internal options on yours, sat nav etc?

Dan

P.S Get those exhausts polished

Not found one yet :cry:Looking for a black 5 door with cloth interior and 18" monza wheels, so if anyone knows where there is one let me know. Also looking for a 11 plater. Driving the wife nuts keep checking for one!
Although looking at the pics of yours, I'm tempted with white. Looks stunning mate

Amazing what some's idea of 'mint condition' is.

Looks like a very nice specimen.

Welcome to the forum.

Thanks for the comments folks, really happy with it!

Done a few miles in it now, loving having something with a nice bit of power again.

I had a Leon FR150 before, nice car, but after I changed jobs and now have a work van, it was a good time to trade in the Mrs car, sell the Leon and get something we have wanted for a while.

It has the winter pack, love having heated seats again. Other than that, no sat nav, no Bluetooth, we want to get that fitted though, a proper oem kit.

It has cloth interior, Mrs always wanted leather, but after seeing this she changed her mind, knew she would!

Spent a few hours cleaning today, needs a good iron X treatment and clay and minor correction, but overall paint is very good.

Oh, and the exhausts have been polished back up to showroom 😉

Will get some pics up soon!

Future plans:

Remap - would like Revo/AMD or possibly bluefin, opinions?

Eibach springs

Xenons, would like oem look, not sure on the DRL headlights

Intake kit

Cat back exhaust

With a second hand car always go for condition first and put colour choice way down the list!
Look at as many examples as you can and but the one in the best condition whatever the colour or you may live to regret it.
IMHO

Lovely GTI NickR
Most of the mods you list are easy to retro fit so it'll make a good long term project.
The xenons were a rare option as they were quite expensive.
I had one mk6 without xenons and one with. The one without was just as good in the dark once updated bulbs were fitted but the one with looked a bit nicer! So yes, the factory xenons look cool and I'm sure you can buy replicas by now (?).

I had a mk6 with REVO and also did lots of miles with one that had Bluefin.
The REVO was punchier but less smooth (easy to spin the wheels in the first three gears) and the Bluefin was smooth and progressive. On hooligan days you'd prefer the former and quieter days you'd like the latter better.
Both were really good on fuel if you were sensible.

I'll be able to sleep tonight now you've said that. Sooty unloved tailpipes give me nightmares.

Look forward to seeing more of this car.  Don't forget to pop your head round the door of the detailing section of the forum.

I always buy a used car on condition over spec, we were lucky with this one to find it in very good condition and history, and with a lot of the spec we wanted and as a bonus it was only 40 miles away, bonus!

One option I forgot about that it has it Cruise Control, which is a nice addition.

Will have a think about maps, both sound very good, and have a good reputation, would be nice to try both.

In regards to the lights I think ill do what you did, and put some better bulbs in for now.

Put some V power in tonight and went for a nice little blast, really loving the car

I will check out the detailing forum and i'll get some more pictures up in here, it may need another clean first though! I hate un-loved tailpipes too, even the mrs said "you better get those sorted out asap" haha

Parcel force didn't deliver my mats today, not happy

My comments on condition over colour were aimed at sharman.
I can see you did the sensible thing Nick!

Uprated bulbs make a huge difference. In fact in many ways I prefer the uprated Halogen lights to xenons as the cut off on dipped beam with xenons can be a bit sharp and when you're on a bendy road and looking well ahead it can be a bit of a hindrance. I'm probably in the minority though!

You can get REVO trial maps installed, Bluefin might do a money back offer? I'm not sure to be honest!
I've got a Bluefin handset in my garage but alas it will be locked to the ECU of another car and would need resetting otherwise I'd offer it to you to try out.

It's funny how main dealer valeting guys never clean the exhaust pipes properly.

I know the comment wasn't aimed at me, I just put my 2p in :)

I wish it had xenons, they give a car a premium look I think, but for now, bulbs will do.

How much were they as an option new? Must have been a lot as not many people specced them it seems.

Finally got my mats now, very happy with them, will give it another clean the weekend and get some pics up!

Oz - I had Eibach pro springs on my Focus ST (don't shoot me down) lol

They were really good, dropped it 25mm, made it sit perfect, didn't change the ride quality at all for the worse, very good mod. A lot of people choose Eibach over H&R, people say the H&Rs can be quite hard.

Thats good to hear i wanted to know if the ride would be to bouncy or to hard but if your saying the quality is good then i might have to purchase it i was looking at the vw racing ones but there expensive so i might just go for the Eibach pro ones then. I want some xenons too but i've bought some cree bulbs and they will do for now changed both headlights and fog lights so they look good for now.

Definately recommend them, even for looks alone they make such a difference.

Get some pics of the cree bulbs fitted, I would like to see them. Did you have any bulb warning issues?

It's been a while since I updated the thread!

Not done a hell of a lot, been so busy with Christmas and got a Dachshund pup pretty much the same time as the Golf so most weekends are tied up walking her.

Had the car serviced in the local VW dealers 2 weeks ago and needed front tyres so went for Goodyear Eagle F1 Assy 2, these are so good! Much better than the Teflon coated Bridgestones on there.

Still have the bridgestones on the back, but will rotate tyres and get them changed soon.

Got it stage 1 mapped yesterday by a local firm, specialise in VAG stuff and have a very good rep. The map is very good, lovely progressive power.

Took it for a blast over the A4069 after to give it a test and for the ECU to re-learn it's parameters. Should have stopped for some pics, but was having too much fun.

Treated it to a quick wash today and re-polished the exhaust tips, here's some pics.

Lovely looking car mate!

Goodyear F1 Assy 2 are a great tyre, they lasted almost 35k on my car with rotation front to back. Just had all four of them changed on Friday for the new F1 Assy 3. Too early to give an impression yet, but the 2s definitely have a better rim protection edge.

Cheers for the comments!

It needs a good detail, has loads of tar and iron contamination on the paint. Need some better weather to do it.

The modding bug is biting, been looking at lots of bits the weekend! Need to restrain myself... Haha

Update!

Picked up a set of wheels yesterday, dropped them off this afternoon for a refurb, will post pics when they are back.

Looking to lower the car, I'm looking at Eibach springs, not sure between pro or sport line ones.

Anyone have any experience of the VW drivers gear ones?

Any pics or feedback greatly appreciated!

I bought mine a couple of weeks ago. New on here.

Dsg, leather heated, Bluetooth. Only things missing are cruise, DAB and xenons  :undecided:

Done a couple of bits to it but only minor. Aluminium paddles, tinted plates, res delete and tip change plus a minor detail and my friends 6R wheels

Wish mine had DAB, Bluetooth and Xenons too! Looking to retrofit these though.

Nice looking car mate, I got tinted plates too, but haven't fitted my private reg yet.

Fitted the new wheels last week.

Really chuffed with them, although it really needs lowering and spacers now.

Treated the car to a detail last weekend.

Washed
Gyeon iron treatment
Clayed
Gyeon Q2 Quartz coating (amazing stuff)

Treated wheels with G technic C5 wheel coating.

Here's some pics:

I should have got a mk6 in white when I had the chance
