Hi,
Gti isn't due an oil change for a while, but I want to change the oil because I don't know what crud the indie garage put in there as it was serviced just prior to me buying it.
Now I'm looking to changing the oil for now to some normal 5w-30 synth stuff, flushing it out after a few K and putting millers nano drive in there.
what's everyones opinions on this?

It's cheaper than castrol and I will be draining it back out in 2-3k anyway. For the money it seems to be a no brainer?

Where was it serviced? Most decent garages will use VW approved 504 if its the VAG family. I wouldnt bother flushing out with another cheap oil to then buy more a few k's down the road.
I would save my money, put Nano Drive or Helix in now and then just change after another 5-8k with a fresh batch of decent stuff.
