Theres kits to do this and its quite common in the US, you can also modify a standard K04 to fit rather than spend a fortune on the kit. With the usual mods they make 360bhp upwards.
Anyone here done it?
Im in the process of doing it myself.

Yeah a few people have done it. Neil did the full works. A lot of money for an extra 50-60 bhp from a IHI turbo Revo stage 2.

50-60hp? Try 100+, im at stage 2 around 260bhp, K04 will make a minimum of 360bhp and same for torque!
You need to have a shot in one!
A K04 car is totally transformed, serious torque from low down through to red line. They really are a serious bit kit at that stage, ive had an S3 to that point and the cars/ motorbikes it spanks is unbelievable. 175mph+ too. Stage 2 doesnt come close.
Im very un-impressed with my stage 2 after having a 360+bhp S3, so its going K04 for same power!
Stage 2 probably costs more than going from stage 2-3 if you can do the work yourself.
Stage 2- full system 1000, intake 350, software 600= £1950 for 50/60bhp.
Stage2-3- K04 turbo 400, clutch 460, intercooler 600, software upgrade 200- £1660 for at least 100bhp and an animal of a car :D

My brother has an Edition 30. Yes it is super quick, but living in England the amount of days he can get the extra power down is about 15.
I bought all my parts "Nearly new" so to go to stage 2 was just over a £1000 for me. And when going to stage 3 most people recommend changing to an upgraded HPFP, upgraded injectors and you said 460 for clutch, does that include new DMFW? Plus the labor.
If you have the money and its not your daily driver, then Yes K04 is a great piece of kit. You probably feel you need it more as you are coming from an S3, downgrading power always feels awful.

I think you are getting confused.
I am talking about a Mk6 Golf GTI, which has a different TSI engine. The K04 doesnt just bolt on like on EA113 TFSI engines, but being TSI it doesnt need an upgraded HPFP or injectors as theyve been improved (along with other things) and are much better as standard.
Ive bought a low mileage K04 for £350, £20 too modify it, £30 on new hoses to fit it, £380 for a new unfitted stage 2 Airtec IC (cost seller £605!), and a Helix clutch is £460. My car has only done 31k so it doesnt need a DMF. I actually forgot you need a DV relocation kit which has cost me £200. Some gaskets etc too but not exactly much.
So to go stage 3 its costing me £1440+ software. A lot of money but well, well worth it!
Im actually upgrading pancake pipes etc too, but thats my choice and not really required.
My car is a weekend toy, up North of Scotland its good fun in a quick car :D

Yeah i knew you meant the TSI, still though most people got the APR HPFP, but anyways.
Id you have got it all for that price it sounds like a good deal .....Dont forget to get some decent brakes if you havent already

I was planning on buying parts over time and doing it over the winter for next year, but i have zero patience so ive ended up buying everything bar the clutch within the last 2 weeks
Yeh a BBK will be a purchase at some point too. Its an expensive hobby right enough..

I thought about it, getting the apr kit.
Coming straight from stage 1 it works out about 6k tho fitted. Il wait till I can afford a mk7 r.
-
Wow it sounds sore at that.
I take it you cant fit yourself and need to pay labour?
What does that consist of?
APR kit inc software is £2600
Exhaust £1000
Intake £350
Intercooler £600
Clutch £460
Total parts: £5010
Labour easily 10hrs at say £50- £500
Total £5510.
Oft, right enough that sounds sore!
I wouldnt do it at that money either.
I have K04 kit made up myself for £600 + APR software £600- £1200 instead of £2600 APR kit!!!
Car had exhaust and filter already and got an intercooler new at £380.

Mine ran 290bhp off stage 2 and in my opinion its hard to get that power down out off the front wheels so running say 360 bhp with a ko4 would be a waste in my opinion i would have stuck with the 360 bhp s3 with 4 wheel drive and a stronger engine to take that sort off power
-
I certainly have no traction issues at stage 2, in my book it really isnt fast. If youre struggling maybe you need to look at tyres.
Half the reason i sold S3 was it was pretty sensible with that kind of power, half the fun is putting the power down having a bit of a fight on your hands.. Im not a fan of quattro.
Its smooth, refined power from a good map anyway, not like an old peaky turbo car..
-
I am running bridgestone potenzas dry hot weather will spin all the way frew second gear you said ures was running 260 bhp off stage 2 so that is 30bhp less wot tyres are you using?

Why do you reckon there's so much difference between the two bhp wise? How's that work out if you've both got stage 2. As i've seen stage 1's higher than 260.

Edit - Just seen the plan is to use APR software.
Quattro more ideal for bigger power but ETTO.

Yup well I just had to order a new clutch so am on my way lol but thats going to cost me over a grand with the fly wheel. (Sachs Performance) so I definitely going to start doing the rest to atleast stage 2 now.
With the k04 turbo dont you need to upgrade the brakes too?
How did you get your turbo so cheap are you in the business yes?
Im pretty clueless when it comes to car engines so unfortunately going to cost me big whatever, although I could manage the filter & intercooler I reckon.
Plus I am told you only need to change the downpipe & not the full exhaust?
My car has done 53k but I spent a lot of time, £ & effort sound deadening the whole car & my speaker install etc cost me a lot so would ultimately like to keep the car & eventually add the turbo.
-
Is there any way I can get hold of a k04 turbo without having to modify it myself cheaper than revo or apr.
Revo is £1250 without software, according to their site but when you go demon tweaks they want £1500.
Seems like a damn con when you look at the price of an s3/r k04.
Also I have been looking at the comparison between revo or apr remap. Im not sure there is that much in it & would probably go for whatevers cheapest. Revo seems to be a lot more aggressive & not so good for daily driving.
-
I just estimated my stage 2 at 260bhp, i think 290bhp is quite unlikely for sure.
Well, its now complete and running my own modified K04 with APR software. Its a bit of an animal now!

376BHP and 378LB/FT
Thats more like it, and now it struggles for traction, which is great fun. My S3 was boring!
