Title: Static build up on outside glass

Hello Guys, I have a Mk7 Gti and for the last few months have noticed and been unable to get rid of a static charge build up on my outside windows. They are all affected and I have tried changing and replacing the microfibre cleaning towels I use, all to no avail.  I can think of only one thing that has changed and that is that I applied a 'Nanolex ultra glass' treatment at about the same time I first became aware of the static problem, any ideas? It's driving me mad as the charge is quite strong and it holds some fibres from the cloths as I clean the windows, not ideal!Grrrrr!  :angry:

Weird as it may sound, try rubbing a tumble dryer sheet (Bounce, or supermarket ones) over your glass before cleaning it with MF or glass cloths, or rub your MF's with the dryer sheets first.  Additionally, Although not normally recommended, try using fabric softener when you wash your micro fibres as this might help.  I guess the last resort would be to remove the nano coating but that may require polishing to get rid off. 

Are you getting electric shocks from it as well as the fibres sticking?  If so and it's bad, you could use a grounding strip but they look a bit naff.

Let us know if you find a solution.

Are you only noticing when your cleaning the windows or is it noticeable between washes too? If it's just when your cleaning then it might be something to do with your cloths or that you might not be using enough product ergo creating the charge yourself?

If it's your cloths then, as Booth has suggested, just run all of your cloths through the wash with a tiny bit of fabric softener to see if that does the trick.

Really interested to hear how you solve this as I've never come across it before!!!

Thanks for the reply, I need to get a little more scientific with my investigation process as I can use the same MF cloth on the windows on my van after using it on the car and get no static issues at all! I will need to consider removing the Nanolex treatment although this seems a little dramatic as an elimination method, although I guess I could try just doing one side window first to see what happens. Thanks for your ideas and I will try them and let you know what I find. 😀
