Title: Scorpion 918 alarm not turning off on Golf GTI mk 3 1995
Post by: thebassman on 23 August 2015, 15:57
Hi guys
a quick question, as i see this is a common issue on mk3 golfs.

i have had my mk3 for about 5 years, never had any issues with the alarm, well besides the annoying auto arm issue.

i have had the battery off for a couple of months, as i haven't been using the car.

i have now re-charged and fitted the battery. the alarm goes off and will not turn off using the alarm fob.
it is the two button fob, with slider switch. i believe it is the 918.

i have tried the re-set procedure to no avail.

i have also now taken the glove box out and pulled the plugs on the back of the plastic alarm box. I then tried the re-set again, but still not working. i can see the large wiring loom tracking back along the bulkhead toward the ignition/ fuse box.

My question is, to take the whole lot out, is this a possible diy fix? or am i just asking for trouble.
is it better left to an alarm specialist.

is there anyone in the st neots Cambs area who could do the job for beer money?

cheers

have you checked the battery in the fob?

my 8v had a dealer fit scorpion alarm, suspect its the same, mine died in the cold.
-I didnt bother to replace, as it doesn't immobilise, thats built into the ECU.
only issue after unplugging the box was the central locking stopped working, but after much web trawling, you just need to put a jumper wire between the green wires in the middle of the alarm box connector

Hi
thanks for the reply.
I'm pretty sure the battery is ok, I have 2 fobs and the little red led lights up on both when I press the left hand side arm button.
So you just unplugged the cables from the scorpion alarm unit, located behind the glove box? and then added a jumper wire.
when you say the "green wires in the middle of the alarm box connector" is this the green connecting wires, leading up to the alarm box?
I only ask, as it is like a rats nest of cables in there.

cheers

Its been a few years since I did this, if yours is the same, the connector should be a single wide strip with a single blank without a wire in the middle -either side of this blank the cable should be mainly green that you put the jumper in. I hope this is what you have

Hi
Thanks for the replies.
Unfortunately, mine sounds very different.
There is quite a large wiring loom coming from the drivers side, this then splits into 2 large and 2 small block connectors that plug into the back of the scorpion unit,
