Title: Dynolicious Fusion - Golf R + DTUK box
Post by: remlapeel on 10 August 2015, 21:15
Ok, so I have been trying to get my car remapped for some time. Been to APR, REVO, Celtic, Evolution chips and the ECU codes are locked. So I have decided after waiting for 3 months to go for a tuning box.

After having some disappointed with tuning boxes on my GTI I wanted some way of showing the improvement without spending megabucks on a VBox. So after noticing DTUK posted results from one of their customers using dynolicious to record results, I did some research and it looks very accurate for the £10 cost.

I did multiple 0-60 runs in my R today using Launch control on the same road at the same point.

I have multiple screenshots but it's to time consuming to upload them all.

The average results at stock today are:

0-60 in 4.7 seconds
Est Wheel HP- 250.

These results have been repeated and the 0-60 is within a 10th of a second over 10 runs. The BHP has a 10% variance but still some good number to go by.

My DTUK box turns up tomorrow and I will repeat the tests

So basing on a 15% transmission loss I should be expecting results in the region of 315 WHP and 0-60 of around 3.8. We shall see. I will also spend some time with the different maps to see which performs best.

I'm in the same boat having a 2015 golf r, Revo have told me they will crack it , but after last years massive warranty Claim on my revoed gti I'll rather not take the risk, I hope you get the gains your looking for & I can't wait to get mine done.

I have been up and down about the DTUK box, lots of people seem happy, others seem very disappointed. I really wanted a Revo map, as the map they did for my GTI was outstanding, but I have waited 3 months and they don't seem any further forward.

Hopefully tomorrow shall shed some light on how good they are. I will get it on a proper dyno if it shows some promising numbers on the app

o I fitted the box yesterday after work, nice and simple fitting process.

I spent some time going through the maps to see which felt the most powerful, and I resorted to using map 1+3.
I didn't get time to do any runs yesterday, although I managed to get 1 run done on the way to work by using a handing lay by.

Road conditions were different, small incline on the road, but more importantly it is raining today. All the other tests have been done to perfect dry weather.

(http://i1369.photobucket.com/albums/ag237/lee_palmer4/Mobile%20Uploads/image_zpswvltntmf.jpg) (http://s1369.photobucket.com/user/lee_palmer4/media/Mobile%20Uploads/image_zpswvltntmf.jpg.html)

The car feels a lot quicker in 3rd and above.

I will get some runs in when the weather drys up to see what I can get on the same stretch of road I used in the first test.

I'm on my Mac.
I just tried looking at photo bucket photos on another forum and they won't load either so it's probably an issue my end.
All other images and photo hosting sites seem ok. Odd.

It is quite old. And after many years of owning it I still have no idea how most of it works, as I only use Microsoft at work, which is great as it means I hardly waste any time on it!!

Lol, results are 307 HP at the wheel and a 0-60 run of 4.1 seconds in the rain.

The results haven't been repeated yet though

Thanks Lee.
I've switched to my phone and can see the links now.

Pretty impressive.

Does the latest software for the box on the R kick the power in earlier than on the GTI one previously?

You should hopefully be able to crack 3.9 seconds in the dry.

It is lower down but I can only compare it to my Revo map on my GTI, the Revo map is hugely more urgent and punchy. I can't even feel the box in 1st and 2nd, where as Revo transformed my GTI into an animal. It does what it says on the tin, but nowhere near as exciting as the Revo imo

Did you have a manual gti?

Yep, this is my first DSG.

Yep, this is my first DSG.

Does the dsg not limit the torque in first and second?

I have no idea lol. If it does, that would make perfect sense as to why I can't feel the difference and the manual GTI was mental.

3rd with the box is hugely powerful, it's good fun

Catch 22 then - you have more traction to take advantage of in the R but the box is more civilised in its delivery.
It's funny how two ex-GTI owners on here had REVO and both had quite a few warranty claims! I had REVO in a couple of previous cars and they certainly deliver the thrills but can be a bit overly aggressive in delivery.

Lol and mine included, flywheel, clutch and gearbox synchro rings.

It is a very civilised delivery, but certainly have noticed if I press the peddle for the normal amount of time of a given road, I am going quite a bit faster than I was before lol

Now that it's been nearly a year since I snapped bottom engine mount resulting 8k warranty claim i thought I'd post a video to show how it happened ,I was only my 3rd run & was experiencing a lot of wheel hoping from the extra power of the revo map. Straight away i knew something had broke so back off , you can hear The warning buzzer telling me the car was over heating because the engine hit the rad,but also smashed the DSG & damaged the catalytic converter thank god VW fixxed it under warranty.

Looks impressive remlapeel , I think I'm sold, I just need a car to put it on after it was stolen at the weekend, I look forward to your dry time I think it will have more to give.

It certainly wasn't a comedy moment at the time, but I suppose I can laugh about it now, VW said I was the only one in the world to have broke the mount so probably just got unlucky.

How many launches had the car done before this happened (on and off the drag strip)?

I had never done a launch control in it for fear of breaking something(ironic I know ),it was only my 3rd run when it snapped& had the traction control off.I think if I had kept the car I would have got a new part milled out of steel , the cast mount is so fragile.

I see, do you know if the mounts on the R are different? Perhaps you just had a weak mount from manufacture, this was a premature failure to say the least.

There is a compromise between NVH and comfort for these cars. Changing all 3 mounts may be a bit harsh day to day.

Not sure if the R mount is same as the gti , I would check for you but my car was stolen last week , if it is the same mount its probably under a lot less stress on the R being 4 wheel drive .
