You'd never believe my dismay earlier when I spotted a dreadful and unforgivable omission from my £31045.00 hand-built Volkswagen supercar of the type that can easily cope with dispatching hyper-cars worth more than three times the price with just the addition of a tuning box and DSG in Race Mode* / Cheapest car in the world to hire for two years with a 5k mileage limit per annum*

Sorry, forgot which forum I was on for a second.
Well, anyway, to my abject horror today I noticed that after two quick succession price rises VW have still had the gall to omit the central rear cup holders below the air vents on my 2015 car.
On my 2013 3 Door car there were two cupholders in the fold down thingy below the air vents and two cup holders either side of the rear bench plus side bins.
For the extra £700 of the 5 door I've been robbed of the middle two cupholders in a car that's more likely to be carrying rear passengers (due to the extra doors).
Stingy b@st@rds.
No wonder Volkswagen's controlling board is in tatters. Whatever next?
Seriously though, that is pretty poor penny pinching after a raft of price rises.

It is telling that the most vibrant thread on another forum is the one about embarrassing other cars, of the type you mention in your strikethrough text above.
What is in place of the cup holders in the rear then? Sweet FA?

I have bins in my rear doors and two cupholders in the rear central arm rest. Plus two cupholders in the front centre channel.

Maybe Mr Ex hasn't pulled the rear central arm rest down yet. Anyway cup holders are wasted in the rear of my car, as drink (and food) is banned.
Does the R still have the through load hole, behind the rear arm rest, so you can carry long items in the boot and poke them through the gap? Is that still there?
-
As Rebecca said, the MK7 (AFAIK), has never come with cup holders integrated into the rear of the centre console (below the air vents), they are in the fold down rear seat armrest.
The MK6 and MK5's did come with them though.

The one's in the Mk 5 and 6 look really flimsy, as if they would break as soon as you look at them, and I must admit I'm surprised mine are still intact, but as said, they aren't often (ever) used.
Sootchucker is there still provision for carrying long items from the boot, through the rear centre arm rest? I make a surprising amount of use of this feature and hope it's still there.

None of my mk7's have had them below the vents. :-\
There is still the load through facilty though. :afro:

Ta, Jimble. That's good news. Don't care about the below vent cup holders.
You still enjoying being back in a GTI?

Thanks. Better late than never

Ahh yes, I'd forgotten about the one in the armrest. Nice one Asker. I knew I could rely on you for every intricacy.
I had to transport some cans of coca cola earlier (other brands of cola are available) and could have sworn there was a pull down what-not thingy in the GTI that went before. Maybe too many years with mk5 and mk6 Golfs has confused me.
Maybe I have Alzheimer's.
It was my son (who would normally sit in the back of the car and therefore notice these things) that broke the bad news to me, and he'd normally be relied upon to get things like that correct even though he doesn't travel in the Golf that much.
Maybe he has Alzheimer's too?
Why won't VW build an up! Or UP! or whatever it's supposed to be written like with a 1.0 turbo engine that will give me an excuse to slip into 'old fart' mode gracefully and not worry about VW penny pinching spec as the rear windows don't even wind down let alone any cup holders I might use twice in my entire ownership.
Oh and for those fellow fusspot out there (you know who you are!), the cans were unopened and were emergency rations for teenagers...
If now like to apologise publicly to VW for my previous penny pinching comments even though they were too stingy to put the cup holder flap thingy in there in the first place for the one time I've needed it in two years.
Nurse, I need my tablets now...

Well I can sleep soundly tonight in the knowledge the Coke cans were unopened
What you need is a nice man cave like Gazmondo's, then nursey can attend to you there. Think of it less as a man cave and more as an early retirement/care apartment.
-
If I had a man cave like Gazmundo and a nursey to visit I think I'd get a whole new lease of life!
Anyway, aside from the non existant flap thingy and pretty crap fuel mileage the R is great.
Keep the faith Ms B, you'll love it (even though if I were you I'd have jacked in my order and found a 'near enough' cancelled order by now)
Oh and please excuse my autocorrect typos too, everybody. It's an age thing.

Tbh i've hardly driven it, we always seem to end up in my wifes car these days, since she's been driving a lot more it's becoming evident that i don't really need a car, more a case of wanting one i think, the GTI still a cracking car that makes me smile every time i look at it!

Central rear cup holders below the air vents, suppose BMW have these.

I can relate to that.
The GTI is great to drive and even better to look at :afro:

Well what am I waiting for? I will immediately cancel my R order and make my way to the nearest BMW dealer.....car within 6 weeks, cup holders and all, why have I not ordered one before??
Oh yeah! Because I don't want a fast, über refined land boat...... I want a Golf!

Jimble, you need to ditch the wife's car for a bit, stop standing just admiring your GTI, and get back into it and enjoy it.

Well that's what you need then - luxury man cave with nicey nursey in attendance.
I am trying to keep the faith (even though many probably think I'm mad). I think you are right - I will love the R. Much more than some on here (present company excepted), the irony of it is, they have theirs but I am denied mine for the time being.
-
I don't have children so I will be checking the back area of the Golf today!

Maybe the cost of producing cup holders have gone up :undecided:
I have a Peugeot Expert van for my work and was equally dismayed when I got a new one last year minus the 2 pull out dash cup holders leaving me with nowhere to put my white van man thermos mug.
Jeez It's that bad I'm moving onto the transit custom asap.
