Hi all,
Sorry if this has been covered before. I'm now on week 3 of having my new GTI Manual. Loving it so far, though I'm finding it much quieter than my previous Mk5, I mainly mean the exhaust. It sounds like it's blowing a bit when I first start up but is that just a characteristic of this car?
I'm coming up to 300 miles, does it take a while for the car to wear in and loosen up? I don't like really loud but I also like to know I'm driving a GTI at the same time.
Thanks

You're right, it is much quieter, my mk5 made a great noise without being overly loud, whereas my mk7 makes almost none. I miss it too.
Autoexpress stated that the exhaust on their long term mk7 started sounding fruitier after 12 months use, so here's hoping.
As for the engine, you'll find it becomes much smoother and indeed faster after 1000 miles or so.

Hi Juicetin,
Thanks for the reply. Its a bit annoying as my mate as work bought a Mk6 DSG at the same time as my new Mk7 arrived and his sounds lovely.... Here's hoping too! Brand new cars a??

It will sound the same after 12 months. The MK7 is much more refined than previous versions so it's not that loud at idle. When you start it cold in the morning it is a bit louder due to the revs being above 1k for 30 seconds or so, after that the revs drop to ~750 and the car becomes quiet. If you want more grunt, get a catback exhaust such as Remus or Borla.
