i'm looking to buy one of these units, and wondered if anyone had any recommendations on who to buy these units from,

EBay is usually the best place but just be careful as some sellers say one thing about a unit but when it arrives it's not strictly correct. Do research on the seller through the history bit and feedback. I've bought two units from eBay over the years 1 from Poland and 1 from the Czech republic. Don't worry about the location as these units are made in the czech republic/Poland area but ensure whatever unit you buy comes with a code for the unit on a VW card.

Although be warned about ebay units... no place easier to flock "reclaimed" units from vehicles parked on public roads and private drives....

I assume if it comes with the original VW key card then we should be ok.

In general yes although some of these are faked. Just be careful and check the seller and if it looks too good to be true it probably is.
