Title: Fitted DTUK Tuning Box
Post by: Optimus prime on 04 August 2015, 21:35
Looking to see how many have these fitted?  Along with general opinions regarding performance increase & mpg.  Also anyone fitted but removed after seeing no gains?

Thanks

Had it fitted. Good power increase never any problems. Sold it to a bloke on here who had issues with juddering. Not sure if he ever sorted it, I hope he did anyway. Mpg is all down to your right foot, any other gains weren't noticeable but doesn't mean they weren't there if I had ever tried to be economical mind.

Buy one for the performance gains, not for the mpg gains.

These work by modifying the car's signals to the common rail and boost sensor, and so the car will be using more fuel than it thinks it is. Driven normally, the car will appear to be using less fuel according to the MFD display - the fuel gauge tells no lies though. As stock, the GTD's MFD will be about 3% optimistic. With the box on it will be around 9%

I fitted one the same day I removed my JF box to send back ( returned due to poor power delivery, jerky when going slow) although very powerful when your foot was down. So I was expecting big things, but it felt no different that stock and certainly slower than the JF box. Andrew did say the JF box could have been over boosting so gave uneven comparison to a proper tuning box, which is why it was so poor the rest of the time. After cycling through the maps, I gave up and gave it back to DTUK after a week. Since then I have had a full remap on the GTI by Revo, which was awesome!

That was the past and now have my R and searching for a tuning box because the new 15 plate ECUs can't be unlocked yet so can't get s revo or custom map done.

Had a box and returned it due to juddering in 1st and 2nd. I bought direct from dtuk not 2nd hand.

Got one fitted to the GTI PP at the moment and very happy with the results. Not had it on a dyno but it's definitely and measurably quicker than standard.

Still got to have a proper playaround with the different maps but all is good!

Over 12 months and 25,000 miles later I really have nothing bad at all to say ! The beauty of the DTUK box is if one map does not suit you, it can always be changed to another. Been running 4+1 (older CRD-t version) since day one and it's never missed a beat, my only slight niggle would be throttle pickup in normal mode (driver profile selection). This is easily solved however by switching to sport when the mood takes me or by fitting of the DTUK pedal box.  MPG better when cruising steadily on motorway, worse when nailing it down a dual carriageway or A road but that's exactly what I'd expect.

Have run 4 separate VW TDI's over the last 8 years all using on chip remaps and I'd say I prefer the DTUK box for removability and flexibility over them all ! Don't get me wrong I never had any clutch issues with the reputable remaps I used but did have 2 x MK6's with MAF/EGR valve issues replaced under warranty (but I think this was a common problem on mapped and non-mapped CR140/170 engines anyway).

Hope this Helps,  sorry if I banged on a bit !,

I have an FSR+ on mine (latest software). Really good piece of kit. There are 3 maps all with -3 and plus 3 settings. Takes a while to test them all out. I'm currently on map 1 and does pull harder  particularly with the pedal box too.
Im going get a rr done soon to see what the before and afters are. If superchips had a bluefin out I would have opted for one of them (had one on my Mk6). But this is good while i'm under warranty.

Running the latest box on a GTi. I was sceptical but after reading many posts on this forum decided to buy one.

Initially in the lower hears I was a little disappointment but in the higher gears especially in 4th there is a lot more pull - it is noticeable and the fact it can be removed in 5 to 10 minutes is great too.

A speed test on an incline slip road The terminal speed is around 15 miles an hour higher with the tuning box running map 2 + 3. I have tried the other 2 maps and prefer map 2 as I find it more progressive.

Very happy now but will still demo to stage 2 at the appropriate time.
