So it's 2015 and Autoexpress know what the Golf is going to look like in 2019...

I smell something...

It won't look like this

Remember all the 'vision' images of how the Mk7 was going to look back pre 2012.  Well the Mk7 came out not looking remotely like any of them.  Thank God!  Some of those mock ups were either super chav or just grim.

I'd take the Autoexpress article with a very large pinch of salt.

It won't look like that and it won't be a 325ps powerhouse, the standard R won't be up to 425ps either. The usual lazy fantasy journalism we come to expect from them.

I'm still laughing at that wild claim

Bless Autoexpress blind optimism.

olkswagen has lifted the lid on the type of technology we could be about to see on the VW Golf Mk8.

Quote
The next-generation hatch, revealed in our exclusive images, will not only be lighter than the current model, but more powerful, more economical and offer significantly smarter technology to give greater connectivity – the likes of which could set the Golf as the class’ benchmark five-door hatchback.

Lighter and more economical for sure - probably because Euro7 will have been agreed by then and it will need to meet it.

Class benchmark? Well, the mid sized VAG car will be the class benchmark, not necessarily the VW branded one.

VW has spilled the beans to Auto Express on the type of technology it’s preparing to roll out in its model range in the coming few years – and we’ve got it on good authority that the vast majority of it will make its way into the Golf.

How many stories and press releases about next gen VW tech have there been so far this year? Some of it will end up in the Golf.... really? outstanding journalism here guys.

lol and magazines do this... sells magazines....

It's hard to guess/know what the MK8 will look like.  What is more interesting is how many variants they will spin out of the MK7 - will we see a rumoured Golf CC - another soft top?

I sincerely hope not, and never been a fan of Golf cabriolets.  They are simply a Golf with the top hacked off, not designed as such from the ground up.

It'll be entertaining seeing all the mangled renderings of the Mk8 though.

What Booth said ^^

As an aside, whoever drew up those mock ups should be sacked, truly horrible looking car

Trouble is Auto Express is at best the motoring equivalent of the Beano. Not really worth paying much attention to IMO, pure speculation.

I'm not interested to see what the next Scirocco and CC will be like as they are due sooner.

They should really consider giving it the 5 cylinder 2.5 motor, especially the probably £35K 325bhp version, to add refinement and reduce turbo lag.  The slightly worse fuel consumption won't concern likely buyers.

They will affect VAGs EU emissions targets - that's what's driving the lower emissions targets.

Everyone can make an educated guess on the type of tech on the next Golf - there be some innovations but broadly speaking it will be tech seen on other cars.

As the new Passat (in Germany at least) can have a head up display, traffic display, tft dials - there's your starters.

Then there's the buzz about cars that drive themselves - so more of that.

Gesture control?   That's appear on high end cars - intelligent headlamps - they will be there as well.

There will always be unknowns but car makers love to do this sort of thing, take tech that has been developed by outside companies and will appear on many cars and make out it is their own.

Yes, most of this stuff for German marques is Bosch in origin.

Think of the car makers as integrators of technology rather than designers. The vehicles themselves are all subcontracted manufacture, the factory only assembles.

Which bits you get is all down to VW deciding on a package price - much like someone assembling a PC for you from components.

What *could* it have? All sorts of things! I'm hoping finally for machine guns behind the headlights personally.
