Local dealers dont have an R in stock at the moment to view so can anyone familiar with the GTi and R answer a couple of Qs
1. What size are the brakes on the R, are they same as the GTi PP, I have a set of 17s Winters and would hope to use them
2. The R boot is listed as smaller but is the floor area the same as the GTi but just higher, reducing the volume, or is the floor area reduced or different shape
3. Does then R come with a spare wheel as standard
Thanks

1 - correct - same brakes as the PP GTI
2 - floor space is the same, you just lose the lower level floor from the GTI
3 - yeah it comes with a space saver spare wheel

On point 2:
You don't lose the lower half completely but there is no recess for the spare to drop in to. The lower floor is flat and the spare sits on on it. You get a formed soft plastic support which has storage options in it to support the movable section of the boot floor.
I have just been away camping and was still pleased (compared with my previous GTI) with the amount of stuff I could ferret away under the boot floor !!

Thanks guys, now chasing a test drive

Point 2: If you never drop your boot level on a GTI or GTD beyond the "flat" upper setting then you are losing nothing. The tyre changing tools are a little more accessible on the R too as everything is well spread out under the boot floor rather than rammed into the recess of the spare wheel or the corners around the wheel.

The reduced boot size was the main reason I didn't go for the R, that and the fact I'm still totally in love with my GTI.
i have quite a few items which 'just' fit into the boot of the GTI , they would not fit into the R boot- I have tried.

Similar story for me but in reverse. I badly wanted a 4WD system in the boot of my GTI but it just wasn't there. So had to go for the R lol
