Post by: mike1990 on 26 July 2015, 18:16
Where would I get some cheap piston rings for a golf 1.6 akl? Ecp wants about 160 for a full set

Be grateful if someone helped, thank you

Thanks mate, question for anyone...

I've just took the oil control rings out on one piston(# 4) and they was all coked up, cleaned everything up and reinstalled them and they are now free and aren't flush with the piston. Does this mean I can just free all of them up and not replace them?

it would be best to replace rings and have the bores honed. but you should get away with freeing up the rings and cleaning off all the carbon from the ring grooves if they all look ok. you should also check the bores carefully and de-glaze them slightly with some 800 grit wet-dry and wd40.
