Need advice on possible damaged steering rack please.
I have a Golf TDI 06 plate and recently the driver side spring snapped. Had it replaced by Kwik Fit and all seemed ok. After about 2 wks, I could hear a clanking sound when I steered my wheel. It doesn't happened often, maybe once every 5/6 rides. The best way to describe the sound is like something is dropping back into place when I steer. There is no juddering except the odd shake of the whole car when I'm stationary ( by that's always been like that for about 5 years now) and the steering wheel doesn't seem overly tight or loose. It drives normal bar for the occasional clunk.
I took it back to Kwik Fit who checked it over. Apparently everything is in place although they said my front wheel, driver side was stiff to turn manually when it was up on the rack. They considered a possible steering rack problem.
Does that sound right?
Thanks for any advice.

First mistake, never use quick fit (unless you know the guys) most of them are grease monkeys and dont know their arses from their noses.
One of the main "clunks" noises on the MK5 & MK6 platform is the sub-frame moving. Best thing to do is jack up the car and make sure all the bolts are tight and torqued to the correct spec.
these are the ones i mean mate:

Give this a try before you go down the steering rack options. Also, make sure your drop links arnt worn or snapped

Hiya, thanks for your advice. Unfortunately I'm a clueless female when it comes to car mechanics. I will take it to a garage and ask them to check the parts you mentioned.
