Gti PP owner...apparently the throttle response is supposed to be sharper in sport mode than normal but 3 months in to ownership I'm struggling to tell any difference.
Is it just me or do others think the same?

I can certainly tell the difference in mine, much sharper in Sport.

In this respect, I also struggle to find a big difference between normal & sport. The only mode I notice a major difference with, is ECO. The car seems to have quite a 'lag' in ECO, when comparing ECO vs. normal & ECO vs. sport.

Thanks for your reply, yes i know what throttle response is and I'm saying I can tell no difference between modes in my car.

The difference between eco and normal vs normal and sport is huge. What I have noticed in the GTD and the R is that in Sport/Race, the bottom end is sharper (not by a massive amount), but mid to high end makes no odds.

Are you resetting sport mode every drive? If you leave it set, next time you start the car it will say it's in sport mode but the throttle won't actually be in sport. It forgets and VW don't seem to have a fix.
In our GTD we have to switch to normal and back to sport to get the steering and throttle really into sport mode. Oddly it always remembers the exhaust, that always remains in noisy mode.

I used to have this on my GTD, they couldn't fix it at the dealership, but an ECU software update that was part of its first service cured the issue. My R does not suffer from mode amnesia.

I had my first service on the GTD in August 2014. The fix was coincidental to the unrelated software update - they did not intend to fix it that way.

I could never tell the difference in either Sport or Normal setting on my GTI. The only difference was the electronic farting noise sounded like I had a misfire when in Sport mode. As for Eco mode - I'd rather buy a bus ticket.

Seen a few people mention it. Ours has the S&S pack so the extra exhaust stuff, that always stays on but even though the car says it's in sport the throttle reverts to normal - I can tell the difference, it's quite marked. Ours was picked up May 2014, when did you pick yours up?
I've seen VW have changed the profile button on newer cars so it cycles to options rather than opens and then closes the menu...

I think I've Sussed out what OP means, in a Porsche for example when you press sport, maintaining the current angle of accelerator pedal, the car will begin to accelerate. The GTI will not do this. However it does make the turbo seem to spool up faster and more readily at lower revs making the whole thing more urgent.

Sport mode changes the mapping of the throttle pedal in the software.
Increases the throttle position to pedal travel ratio.
Its very obvious, its not subtle.

Maybe it's more obvious in TDI engined vehicles?
I could hardly tell the difference in Sport throttle setting with my GTI aside from noisy Soundaktor, unlike with the steering which was very noticeable. I don't have the luxuries of DSG or DCC to see the changes there. All three throttle map settings felt a bit rubbish to me.
A PedalBox changed all that but I won't harp on about that here as the "In Denial" naysayers will just shoot me down...

I think a DTUK pedal box would be awesome... only I am not confident I could wire it up :-/

This is spot on... the engine map is not changed between modes only the throttle map. In sport less pedal travel has a greater effect than in normal.

If you can work a padlock you can install a pedalbox!
They're really easy to fit, but a bit stiff to remove (but you don't have to remove them until you sell the car as for dealer visits you can just switch them off).
Undo a torx screw to remove trim around/above pedals, unplug one plug using a red slider tab.
Insert plugs and run the control box into the little cubby hole next to drivers right knee (you can do all this by feel with the trim panel removed).
Re-fit trim panel with one torx screw.
The whole thing is now invisible.
Open cubby hole and viola!

Do you mean the flap down storage thing next to the drivers door?
If so, is there anywhere else it can go? Mine is full of stuff :)

That's the ideal position for it, shift some of your other stuff under the drivers seat in the drawer! :grin:

Good idea! Actually, i only remembered that drawer was there recently when i was hunting for the location of some of the onboard computer gear.
I've since put more junk in it.
I really do carry far too much junk!
