Title: VW contributions now on GTD & R (£750) GTI gets £2000 31st July - 6th August
Post by: Diehammer on 17 July 2015, 14:50
Just got this email.

After 41 years of faithfully serving the British public, the Volkswagen Golf deserves the title 'Iconic'. And so it should be treated with all the fame it deserves. Join us from the 31st July - 16th August at The Golf Event. There's never been a better time to buy a Golf, with £2,000 towards your deposit across the range (6.6% APR Representative), including: Golf S, Golf Match, Golf BlueMotion, Golf GT, Golf R-Line, Golf GTI and e-Golf and a deposit contribution of £750 on the Golf GTD and Golf R. In addition, with our competitive monthly payments when purchased on Solutions Personal Contract Plan,* there's really never been a better time to drive home an icon.

We look forward to seeing you at our event.

Funny...my email from Lookers Teesside is exactly the same with the exception that the contributions are doubled on the R and GTD and its £3,000 on the other models.

No, because any discount you got would be adjusted to compensate for the £750 they are giving away for "free" - its marketing and PR nonsense, the customer thinks he's getting something extra when in fact he's not getting anything at all.

Just off the phone with my dealer, basically he said it was an offer to get rid of all current new Golfs in stock between 31 July and 16 Sep, so he said if my car arrives with them before 16 Sep they will give me the £750 contribution towards my finance, and if not then my original deal applys.
Time will tell I guess

I have just been looking into this and have seen that the APR on the deal is set at 6.6%, but their current deal is set at 6.3%.

I'm sure someone with better skills than me can work out is the extra £750 worth the increase of 0.3%?

That 0.3% rise in APR will swallow about £190 of your £750 contribution, so still worth having if it is in addition to what you can currently achieve in discount.

You all beat me to it.

3k contribution on all golds except the GTD and R with a contribution of 1500. That can't be bad. Jonsons VW only offering 2 k and 750 respectively.

I'm amazed they need to do this for the GTD and R to sell them, are sales slowing down I wonder? Or are they just trying to sell a few more by giving back a little from the considerably weaker Euro? VWUK must be raking it in on Forex changes right now vs last year.

I thought the same. With VW you never know. I couldn't find anything on the website for lookers to suggest they were doing the 3k but it's too soon I guess.

I take it such a contribution would reduce the level of discount one could secure. I will see what I can do though and take it from there.

If Kyle you can post a pic of the email you received from lookers I would really appreciate it. I will take this to Jonsons and see if there will be anything they would be willing to do or even speak to the car wow quote providers.

The important facts for this offer as follows:

The enhanced offer is only on cars bought during the event. So only applies to cars customer tagged during the event date and registered before the 30th of September so factory ordered cars will not make it in time for this offer to apply.

It is purely an event aimed at selling what the factory has commited to build in terms of deliverable Golfs by the end of September.

Incredibly there are over 10,000 golfs for the UK market they can build and register that have been ordered. So it's simply to help clear stock that they can see building up.

Evo - so where are all these unallocated cars coming from? I thought VW pretty much only built to order? I can understand a few cars per dealership getting through as stock cars with no customer's name on them (yet), maybe even a few cancelled orders due to GFVs dropping and monthly PCP payments now being higher than expected (but could there be any cars left ordered pre-Nov price rises not yet delivered?), but 10k cars seems a hell of a lot.

It's on the VW website:  http://www.volkswagen.co.uk/golf_event

The Lookers email text reads:

Get £3,000 towards your deposit with Solutions PCP, only at the Golf Event, 31st July – 16th August.

6.6% APR Representative.

I spoke with a salesman at a major dealership, they knew nothing of this "Golf event", perhaps I shouldn't be so surprised ?

Over the last few months few have had more allocation than ever in terms of the the number of golfs we can order. There are hundreds upon hundreds of un sold golf match and GT cars available for delivery this qtr so they have announced an offer I can hardly believe. Selling used cars is basically impossible because if you can get 10% off and £2000 deposit contribution a £20k golf you can finance for £16k!!

GTD/GTI/R/GTE are still really hard to get hold of but the bread and butter stuff there are clearly thousands of they want to shift by the end of the Qtr.

The cost of this offer to VW UK is effectively zero as the change in the £-€ exchange rate since the start of the year makes the cars 10% cheaper for them to purchase from Germany, so same margin plus they get punters tied into the very profitable 6.6% rate. Plus ça change.

If you have the cash, I assume you can still take out the finance and pay it off as soon as possible, which was possible when the £1250 contribution was in place?

So basically the chances of being able to get a GTi or an R under this offer are nearly zero then?

(Unless I am misunderstanding-its to sell the vanilla stuff they are a bit stuck with?)

Could be tempting if it's a real offer.. But might be just marketing..

Noticed for example even solid red is a £250 option and only one flat black colour is free so VW now charging extra to not get your car in primer ??

Will mail my local  dealer but with the nav, winter and keyless standard, and if I can get 10-12% disc then 2k or so lopped off then a manual 5 door with PP as my only real needed option would come in at under £25k I am guessing ?

For this offer to stand you need to find a suitable stock/pipeline vehicle that can be delivered and registered before the 30th of September. That's where the difficulty will lie with the hard to get hold of stuff like GTI/GTD/R.

If you want a Golf match then there is thousands to choose from.....

I have tried to find a petrol Gti to qualify for this offer, but none of the dealers who have cars pre ordered can guarantee they will arrive inside the Sept 30 deadline to qualify for the £2000 contribution.

I'm quite tempted to consider other makes of car after the pointless run around!

A main dealer I have been in today tells me the profit margin in a performance Golf is less than a "normal" Golf,as the price is higher and I cant see the price to manufacture can be proportionally higher I find this hard to believe.

I smell BS!

Smell it? I can almost taste it.

In no industry does a more expensive variant of anything have a poorer margin of profit than the cheap one unless there are massive bulk discounts going on for the cheaper one.
