Title: MK6 resonator delete idea? opinions?
Post by: Dipesh2031 on 13 July 2015, 15:39
Hi,

Looking at the prices of a milltek, I cant realistically afford one yet, but I still want some extra sound, however the exhaust resonator delete videos i've seen sound Horrible so grumbly and raspy, not my cup of tea.

My idea is, seeing as a resonator is a pipe which is perforated inside the chamber, what if the exhaust shop cuts the resonator out, but instead of welding in a 2.5 inch pipe, have a 3.5-4" pipe welded in, and the ends shrunk down, this way the exhaust gasses have a chance to expand, before reaching final backbox, this in my head will make the exhaust sound better without sounding horrible like on the youtube videos, but still giving a desirable sound increase.

I reckon it could work, any opinions? (other than stop being cheap and buy a milltek )

I did the resonator delete 2 weeks after getting the car....it was just way too loud and sounded cheap and nasty.

Keep it like that for 2-3 weeks and managed to pick pick a 3" Milltek Race Catback for £300 on eBay, which sounds really nice.

The only cheap option i would recommend is kind of like you said, but i would just replace the resonator with one half of its size or maybe even a third of its size, that will give you the volume required,

Thats actually a brilliant idea, now to try find a small resonator on its own haha.

£300 is a deal for a milltek! very jelly

Most custom exhaust shop stock a wide range of resonators in all shapes and sizes, so im sure if you have a word with them and explain what you want they should be able to hook you up for around £80-£120 all in.
