Title: Soundactuator
Post by: charv94 on 09 July 2015, 20:42
I've been driving around a lot more recently and due to the traffic and that I've been in Eco a lot, now I know it's slower and less responsive however as far as I'm aware the sound actuator goes down to 0 when in this mode. I have really enjoyed just hearing the slight rasp of the exhaust and not the noise from the front of the car. So I think I want to get it turned off completely in all modes

Has any GTI owner had the sound actuator turned off and did they like it?

Will my dealer charge me to get it turned down I've got no access to vcds to do it myself.

Charlie

Dealer will most likely charge you. Where are you based? Someone on here will no doubt do it for you, I'd you're near the north east I'll do it for you.

You could just pull the plug from it, takes about 2 mins.

And if you ever like to hear a fake sound resonating through your windscreen again, you just need to put the plug back on.

If you can't find anyone closer you could pop up the M6 to see us on a Saturday morning. Best to send an email first info@midlandvw.co.uk and mark it F.A.O Chris to make sure I'll be around that day.

I'll be trying this myself at the weekend as I'm starting to dislike the Soundaktor more and more. Too artificial. Too tractor like. If they are going to pump fake noise into the cabin why didn't they make it sound like a V6 or even a V8?

Unplugged mine, loved it for ages then missed the noise.  Plugged it back in. Takes 5 minutes

Mine is also disconnected, can use sport mode now without the racket, and the car feels faster and smoother
Accept the kind offers to do it for free, dealer charged me £42.

Quick question, does the Mk7 GTI come with the Soundactuator as standard in both the windscreen and the in exhaust system?

As far as I know it's standard on the GTI/GTD/R but only on the windscreen.

GTI has the device behind the windscreen only as far as I'm aware.
I have mine turned down to 25% and its perfect.

Did you use VCDS to turn it down to 25%?

I pulled the plug on mine in my GTI, didn't like the sound. Although I have left it on in my R because it sounds crazy, that and the exhaust mod the car sounds awesome!

Yes it does sound crazy/ridiculous on the R. Not being a fan of the driving modes on the MK7 (just leave it in Sport/Race, fuel savings are negligible in eco/normal - why blunt your throttle response for no good reason?), I felt the need to knock it down. 30% is enough to provide a slight enhancement to the real sounds and everything you hear sounds utterly convincing as natural engine noise, and the natural sound you can hear with the windows down is pretty good.

The exhaust speaker is an optional extra only on the GTD (as part of the 'Sport & Sound Pack')....
