Bought a MK4 Golf 1.6 16v last month for the wife. I thought something in the engine bay didn't seem right but i wasn't sure what.
Anyway, changed all the filters bit by bit with the air filter to do tonight. Go to do it & notice there's no airbox.

Have a look in the boot & that sticker says her engine code is 'AZD' if that makes a difference? Surely not though as it should have one?
But when i google "Golf AZD engine", the images on google look the same - no air box.
Yet when pricing up genuine VW parts & i gave VW her registration, they came back with a price for an air filter, so surely it should have one?

Basically you're missing the engine cover which on your type of engine has the air filter fitted inside it

You're best bet is to find one on ebay
