Title: rattle rattle
Post by: monkeyalan on 21 September 2005, 16:09
I have a rattle from the front end somewhere. It sounds light and metallic. Obvious first thought was the heat shield again, but after spending a few hours under the car fitting and tightening all the clips on the alloy shield and re fitting jubilee clips on the downpipe section i'm 99% sure it's not that. any other ideas? it seems to be non engine related as if i freewheel ( so the revs drop) it still does it and it also seems to be related to the speed of the car. I thought something wheel related but can't see anything it could be.

cheers folks.

i have a similar rattle.. i believe its a slight amount of brushing of calipers and discs.. the gaps so fine there.. i'm yet to prove this but i think light brake pressure may make it go away.. i've also been told that the brake dust shield behind the discs themselves can shake a bit and cause something like this..

i'm yet to prove anything conclusively..

ohh and my mates newish astra does exactly the same thing... same kinda noise n everything

i've had two other rattles on the car.. one was the under engine bash plate (big plastic thingy) not being fitted properly.. and the other was the bolts that hold the door on being loose..

I had this annoying rattle for weeks.

It ended up being the front exhaust clamp had been tightened at a jaunty angle and was just tinkling away.

The garage replaced all the clamps and tighted them up real tight.

Next thing I knew there was an almight banging coming from the rear, sounded like the back box was going to come adrift.

Back to the garage and an overtighted rear clamp was clanging the exhaust off the body.

You live and learn eh.

Now I just have to find that annoying squeek that the brake pedal makes when you lift off.

:()

That'll be the spring that makes the pedal return to it's normal position won't it ? Either that or where the pedal is hinged.
