Aren't you rather too close to the airbag if this can happen...

I'd look at Gliptone Scuffmaster Kit

I was thinking of maybe using black shoe polish or maybe a leather cleaner style product?

Yes but won't you need to keep topping shoe polish up and it will end up all over your hands?  If it's still black then better to use colourless shoe polish or a dedicated leather filler.

My boy sunk his teeth into the top of the steering wheel of my old Passat. I gave that a few firm rubs with the end of my thumb and massaged the marks out. They as good as disappeared straight away and after a couple of weeks they had gone completely.

It's not dramatically deep that's the only reason I'm saying to use polish

Not as dramatic as biting, but I had marks from studs on someone's coat on my passenger seat leather.  The marks were mid depth arc indentations where the studs had pushed into the leather.  I used a hand held steamer to soften the area and then rolled a clean ball over the marks.  I used a hockey ball but something like the back of a spoon would be better for a steering wheel.  Steam the leather first then rub gently with the spoon or some other small curved object.  It took a few goes on mine but all marks disappeared completely.  Use a kettle if you haven't got a steamer.  Condition with a good leather conditioner afterwards to put back oils into the leather.

Has anyone ever used the scuff master kit? I'm weary to use it as it maybe not colour match the rest of the wheel and then I'd have to paint the whole wheel which could have a chance of dyeing the red stitching :(

I'd avoid re-dyeing the whole wheel at all costs.  Thought you said the mark was still black?  Does it actually need dye/shoe polish then?  Can it not just be massaged out or has it taken some colour off?

Not used the scuffmaster kit but I'm looking at getting some of the Gliptone leather glue as I noticed a couple of little cuts on one of my seats, presumably from a bag strap buckle.  Barely noticeable but now I've seen it!  A tiny bit of glue should sort it and stop it catching and getting worse.

Nah it's not black I thought it was but its not :(

If you really want to sort it properly, why not contact Gliptone to check if the Mk7 leather colour is available and ask their advice, a pic might be useful.

Failing that maybe you can just 'dirty' the mark with something that will blend in??

Nah mate it's right on the corner of the door side on the flat bottom of the steering wheel! I've managed to smooth it out but some of th colour has come away! I've ordered the thing u said to order and will possibly try it on the area as it's not very noticeable! But I'll send u a pic tomorrow when I'm back out at car mate!

And you've never made your daughter stand outside the car to eat a sandwich at the services?

 ......on a regular basis.

I had a momentary lapse last week, when I allowed her to eat a croissant (yes, a very, very flaky pastry) in the car as it was raining.  I very nearly cried when I saw the mess.  The 'no eating' rule is once again being reinforced with renewed vigour!

To post pics you'll need a photo hosting account such as Flickr, Photobucket or similar.  If using Flickr, you need to copy and paste the BBC code for your chosen pics into your post.  For Photobucket, you need to copy and paste the IMG code, starting with 'URL...' into your post.

I would massage it with something to flatten the raised areas (massage only in one direction, whicb will be obvious), put a bit of leather polish on it and see how it settles over time. I'm sure that will reduce naturally.  And then you might need to just carefully touch in any remaining grey areas with a tiny bit of the colour matched dye on a fine brush.  Just stipple it on.  I expect after a while you'll barely notice it.

Ok, fair comment!! But I also used to carry a Dyson hand held vacuum with me!!!

Back on topic, I'd just massage the scuff and I reckon it'll be gone after a few weeks of trying.
