Only a few months ago I had the rear bumper on my GTI resprayed as it was not possible to smart repair the damage I had discovered. My paint finish is Oryx White so is a little tricky to repair as it requires 3 coats. Since having it resprayed everything looks like a perfect match and as new. However yesterday I had bought a 50" TV and while putting the TV through in to the boot with seats down, I was concious of trying not to scratch the paint work on the boot. Yet I still managed to find a small superficial scratched area on the boot level with where the edge of the boot and box would have been. The scratches are only obviously visible in certain light. It has not broken the paint surface but I can feel one or two with my nail. Bar getting smart repair involved, which it seems is hard to arrange in my area of Cornwall, is there anything I can try to buff out the scratches/scuffs myself. It looks like the scratches are mainly in the top coat and are most obvious when the light catches it. :undecided:
Hope you help, please advise?
By the way it is possible to get a 50" TV box in the back of a Golf which is impressive. The box on it's end was nearly as tall as my Wife.
Future precautions to protect the bumper paint from now on will involve me rolling a cloth cover out over the bumper from the boot.

I would try rubbing with some polish to start. If the sratches have not gone through the lacquer then should be able to improve it. Failing that ask a friendly body shop to machine polish it for a drink
PS - Putting a 50 inch TV into your pride and joy, what can possible go wrong
-
As above!
PS. What's the TV like?
-
Might be worth trying some G3 cutting compound (but go easy with it).
Also 50" isn't really trying - I got my 55" Samsung in mine to get it home although I was sat a little closer to the steering wheel than normal!

The R club is very quiet ? what size TV can you manage
-
I think the case is how large is the box the TV comes packaged in. The box was way bigger than the TV itself. I also had the seat complete foward and almost touching the dash. I was unable to drive home, until I decided to put the soundbar I bought with it , underneath to prop the TV up diagonally. Then i was able to put the seat back and drive. I told my wife this was the reason I bought the soundbar. I don't think she bought my excuse.
Thanks for your tips, will assess the damage and try a few.
The TV is awesome. I bought a Panasonic 50" 4K Firefox OS system with 5.1 soundbar. The picture on the TV is a little too good. Watched some films on it which I thought had good CG, but on this TV it's so clear and high def every single flaw and cheap effect is shown up. It almost looks as if films which were good on a low def TV now appear as if it were acted out by an amateur dramatics society with cheap props and effects. Great TV though.
We should run a thread of what can you fit in the back of your GTI. My father in law would approve as his overall decision making of which car to buy depends on whether you could fit a washing machine or fridge in the back.

This is a great example of first world problems!!
As above, try a gentle polish. Meguairs scratch X can be effective on light scratches. But it's a bumper, it's going to get the odd minor mark like this unless you wrap it in cotton wool unfortunately.

I can't afford a TV and an R!!
(My elderly 8v GTI gets used for jobs like that)
Blimey Brenbo, how many washing machines do your outlaws get through?
Tell them to get a T5, then they can get a TV, washing machine and fridge freezer all in one trip
-
I can't fit a large TV or large anything in the R boot but have a scratch free bumper
-
My inlaws don't need to get a T5 as their son has a T4 which they use for larger items. I think they just like to know the car can do a tip run if needed. Although I never thought "could I fit a fridge in the back?" when I bought my GTI.
My brother inlaws T4 is used primarially for trips away with his German Satelite dish, Playstation, bed kayak and banjo. He even gets the kayak inside the van. Pretty impressive as they are not the smallest of kayaks.

Sounds like brother in law has an interesting life!

I think he was dropped on his head at birth. Let's just say he's an interesting character, great fun to be around but in small doses.

The box mine was in has the stand at one end of the TV, definitely a tight squeeze!
Couldn't quite stretch to 4k (yet) but even 'standard' full HD is an amazing picture!!

I had been saving money and waiting for the right time to buy. The TV it replaced was about 10 years old, HD Ready TV. 4K is not even up and running fully yet as a standard. But the HDD/Blu Ray Player I've got does 4K upscale and the difference s noticable between the 4K upscale and HD.
My box also had a stand at one end. I think your box most definitely was bigger in that case. However do you have any legs or do you have removable limbs as with my 50" I couldn't get in the drivers seat until I propped the box up at an angle.
It was a fun trip home as my wife hates the sound of polystyrene rubbing together and the packaging in the box was creaking all the way home. Her teeth were on edge for the entire half hour trip home.

A little off-topic but this is probably Panasonic's form of motion interpretation. It's basically tech that is designed to make action "smoother". A lot of people absolutely hate it (myself included). It bugs me enough to even turn if off on other people's TV's when I go around their house
I believe Panasonic call it "Intelligent Frame Creation". Try turning it off while watching a movie and it should look as it you would normally expect.
It's a common complaint on new TV's - search "Soap Opera Effect" in Google!

That's the beauty of this forum.
We're no nearer solving the paint issue (which IMO should polish out easily enough either by hand or machine) but I've learnt something about TV's today
