Title: Front brake disc shields/backing plates
Post by: Splash on 27 June 2015, 15:26
Anyone know how much a pair of front brake shields are likely to cost for a 1994 16v GTI or does anyone do any aftermarket ones? How easy to fit - is it just a case of caliper and disc off then bolt on? Thanks

No idea on cost or even if they are still available,no idea if there are any pattern one's out there either sorry but they are easy to fit, caliper and disc off as you say but be careful with the 3 small bolts that hold each of them on.Heat them up first and use an 8mm socket. They are prone to shearing off

Genuine are no longer available and so far I haven't found any correct fit after market (even though a couple of places list them!!)

I am still trying to locate a new supplier as I have a few customers who want them but no luck as yet!

Following on, does anyone know if the early cars with smaller front brakes (mine's an M plate) and later cars with bigger front brakes have the same size shields? Cheers.

They must have used this brake set up on a newer model within the VAG range, my money would be on SEAT
