Hi all
I am based in Iceland and I need a bit of help with my seats.
I am restoring / very slightly modifying a mk2 golf "10 millionen edition" one of not many left.
I need replacement lower seat bolsters or a complete lower seat foam section for the drivers seat as the bolster has completely collapsed on one side but the fabric is fine and does not have any holes in it.
But my question is...what seat shape is this? to me they look to be the shape of early mk2 GTI seats. regular mk2 seats seem to be fairly flat and I need to find a suitable seat to strip but dont know what to get
I hope someone can help. attached is a picture of the seats in a 10 millionen golf

The seat base on the earlier seats differ from the later. They changed about 1989, possibly when the type went from type 19 to 1G. The complete seat is inter-changeable but not the bases and backs. If the foam hasn't gone too far they can be repaired, but if the foam has disintegrated they will most likely have had it. Decent Mk2 seats are like rocking horse $hit now. I managed to get a good passenger seat some time ago when they were easier to come by.
Plenty of ideas on here about fitting later seats, but possibly you don't want to go down that road if it's a resto. project.

you can have new foam made and fitted.
It cost about £200 on top of re trimming around 13 years ago.
not sure what you save if you re use the current fabric

Seriously your timing is about a week out!! I stripped my old seats last week and binned the seat foam as someone I knew wanted the bases for a mk3 seat conversion. Mines an 87 so would have been a perfect match. I'll go to the skip company tomorrow to see if they haven't been destroyed yet. I'll post back tomorrow to give you the good or bad news!

its quite handy that your car is left hand drive as you could get a british passenger seat which is more likely to be in good condition and drop it straight in to your drivers side

Thanks for the responses, this car is an '88 so I guess that means it has the older version of the GTI seats, these also came with the padded dash opposed to the Plastic dash base models had, they also came with BLUE striped bumpers. and smoked/red Hella taillights aswell as power windows and teardrop/silverstone wheels. One sits in VWs museum, picture attached.
It is impossible to find replacement fabric/seat covers for these so I am lucky that my seats are in good condition with No torn fabric. its only a bad dvrs seat bolster that lets it down so really all I need is the complete lower foam section, it also seems that there is foam falling from the seat onto the carpet so it is disintegrating
If anyone has this section and wants to sell it, please PM me. I am willing to pay up to 100 quid for just this bit if its solid. Really hope i can find this part as ebay comes up with nothing.
