What everyone's favourite wax/sealant for the ultimate water beefing. I've just finished detailing my mk2 golf as the person before me didn't care about how she was cleaned. So she's now swirl free with guardX applied for extra paint protection and today I'll be layering her up with Meg's carnauba wax :)
-
For class beading look no further than hydro2. Spray it on, pressure wash it off. Enjoy 3 months of superb beading.
-
Not tried the Meg's Carnauba or Hydro2 yet, but might give them a go at some point.
At the moment I still like DoDo Juice Blue Velvet Pro. Maybe not the 'ultimate' water beading but pleasing enough and also gives great depth of gloss on a black car.

Looks good. I love carnauba wax for that wet look deep shine. For extra protection I apply a synthetic sealant then carnauba wax over that so you have the best of both worlds 😄
-
Applied Gtechniq G5 water repellent glass coating to both the cars today, it was hard work to buff off but I did a test spray and the beading and run off was amazing! I'll try and get picks when it rains tomorrow.

Agreed. I often wax over synthetic sealant (usually Poorboys) for the same reasons as you. Used on its own, I find sealant can give a quite sterile shine, so topping it off with a wax with decent carnauba content adds that missing gloss and depth, which for me is essential on a darker car.
The DJ BV Pro is a hybrid wax combining carnauba and synthetic sealant so it has both reasonable durability and longevity but still delivers a really deep glossy shine. It's not up to the 6 months plus level of protection but it's good for a few months, before another application is required.
I did try Auto Finesse Desire wax a while ago and the beading was ok, but the protection lasted little more than 6 weeks which was disappointing given the high-ish price tag. A while back on here I did a comparison test of it versus the DJ and it was no contest. Also like Collinite 915 for beading. Not impressed with Poorboys Nattys waxes though, on beading or finish.
What colour is your mk2 Dean?

Yeah, definitely like to see pics of it Neil
-
I've not used any poor boys stuff tbh. My mk2 is oak green looks great after the detail as it was pretty heavily swirled. Gtech I hear is really good stuff and long lasting protection

I like Poorboys sealants and polishing compounds, but not keen on their waxes. DoDo Juice and Collinite waxes are much better imo. Gtechniq sealants always seems to get rave reviews, especially C2V3. Must try it one day soon, maybe on my next car.
Got any pics of your Mk2 since detailing it? Be nice to see it.

Neil, probably a stupid question, did you use the G5 on the front windscreens? I usually steer clear of using anything on the front glass to avoid wiper judder, squeaking etc. if you did, I'd be interested to hear how it fares with the wipers, any issues etc
-
Morning
Funny you mentioned that because I'm normally the same so I've doe. The whole glass on my car and then left bets windscreen to see the difference, looks like I'll be able to report back later as its raining here!
-
I've always used rainX on my windscreen really easy to apply water shoots off like no tomorrow. Silly question how do I upload pictures on here? I'll up load some pics of my mk2. I like using rupes compounds and there jewelling polish with the white tip is brilliant stuff adds that bit more depth to the paintwork. Blue tip for heavy swirls and scratches a bit dusty but a great products both easy to remove and you could work it in all day it don't dissolve.

To post pics you'll need a photo hosting account such as Flickr, Photobucket or similar. If using Flickr, you need to copy and paste the BBC code for your chosen pics into your post. For Photobucket, you need to copy and paste the IMG code, starting with 'url...' into your post.
I used to use RainX but stopped after problems with the wipers skipping over the windscreen and squeaking like hell. In the end I switched to Bosch Aerotwin wiper blades which are excellent and are still judder/squeak free 2 years on. On the odd occasion I used RainX again, it did make them squeak, so now I just wash the screen as the rest of car and leave it at that - product free. I think it's often down to the blades/RainX combination. All other windows get waxed along with rest of the car.
Never tried Rupes but sounds like good stuff.

Dean, I'm sure you'll work it out but these instructions might help

Gtechniq G5
So, quick review.
Application
Hard work to apply and buff off, Bev called me to tell me id done a rubbish of buffing her passenger window off, which I'd spent ages on. It goes on as a thick liquid and dries to a chalk film, a little does go along way.
Results
WOW! The water beaded off so quick in heavy and light rain I didn't even need to put my wipers on so I don't know if it has created wiper judder or not, so I'll update you on that later.
Summary
Great product if you want a great repellent but not if you want a quick class cleaner.

Handy little review Neil. Let us know how it goes with the wipers.
I'm not sure I'd bother with it tbh as cleaning stuff off glass is not my strong point  I've got so used to not having anything on the screen and blissful wiper silence that I wouldn't want to tempt fate. As much as I like great sheeting and beading, silent smooth wipers are more important and although the G5 reduces the need for them, I'm sure they'll still be needed in some cases.

Wow! That is seriously stunning
I tried to sort those previous pic links too but had no luck as they didn't link to the photobucket account properly.
Anyway it was well worth the wait. Car is a credit to you Dean

Do you use Sonax BSD on a dry car? Or apply when it is damp before drying off?

How did you do that it's been driving me insane haha. Thanks for doing that and thanks for the comments lads. It's taken 2 days to detail but well worth it. I went for a 4 door as I'm a believer in 2 doors somewhere along the line a chav has thrashed it around where as a family man may of had a 4 door :) pulls like a train still and looks stunning so I'm happy. Everything original. Once I get the hang of uploading pictures I'll post more

On photobucket, click on the pic you want to embed. Above it there is a little icon in the shape of a link. Click that. Copy the link that says "IMG". Then simply paste it here.
I usually remove the URL link because it makes things messy, but you can leave it in if you like for simplicity.

I was more wondering how you got into Dean0991's PB account from the links he posted as they wouldn't take me to the full account. Have you got magical powers  Sometimes if someone's struggling to get their pics up you can access their photos and get to the IMG code yourself (as you obviously managed to). I'm just being inquisitive.

Love snow foam
I've never actually counted but a full on process for me would be as follows:
Initial light pressure wash (always at a distance and 45° angle to the car)
Pre wash or Snow foam using lance
Pressure wash rinse
Wheels pre wash with wheel cleaner
2 Bucket wash (with grit guards and wash mitt/ Wheel Woolies)
Rinse - final rinse open ended hose
Dry - MF towels/Metrovac Sidekick
Decontamination phase:
IronX
Tar remover e.g. Tardis or combined product such as TRIX
Wash/rinse/dry
Clay - clay bar/clay cloth or clay pad
Wash again, rinse and dry - as previous method
Polish - DA with polishing pads/compound
Wipe down with panel wipe
Apply Last stage protection - Sealant/glaze/wax - can be all or just
some of these.
Apply wheel sealant
Dress tyres
Metal polish tailpipes
Dress exterior trim
External and internal glass clean
Interior clean
When I've got a spare 2 days that is!
-
It's good to see that some people wash the cars properly. Swirl free with a deep wet look shine is the way forward :)

It is indeed. I don't do all that every week
It does usually get a weekly wash, with tyres dressed, exhaust tips polished, and interior clean -.time permitting

Polished bliss is the place to be for detailing products. I get everything from them unless I've ran out of something and need it quickly ill pop to my local Halfords. No I don't do it every week snow foam hand wash and wax yes. Wax will protect your paint work. I used guardX after the detail which lasts 2 years then a layor of carnuba wax for the wet look shine do now every time she's washed she's waxed with carnuba
-
My go to for detailing stuff is cleanyourcar or polishedbliss, and occasionally theultimatefinish.
I totally agree with you about wax. I love carnauba wax, and also like hybrid waxes with a high carnauba content. Regardless of whatever else goes on the paintwork - sealant, glaze etc, it's always topped off wax which is then layered over time. Carnauba wax offers a depth and gloss that you just don't quite get with anything else.
Like you, snow foam is part of my normal wash regime and would never miss it out. It's a bit of a divisive subject though, some don't think it offers any real benefit, but I disagree.
Waxing every week - that's devotion for you!
-
Blasting it with water before a hand wash won't remove the muck snow foam lifts and drags the muck off so when you go in with a hand wash there's less chance of putting in scratches and swirls. So I'd say it's worth using in my eyes
-
Agree. Blasting it with a jet washer first off will only push the grit etc into the paintwork.
I gently moisten the car first then spray the snow foam on and let it do it's work while I prepare the buckets for the handwash. You can see the muck the snow foam has shifted in the suds on the driveway. System goes like clockwork.
-
Totally agree mate
-
See I prefer to snow foam the car when it's dry...wonder if I should try it whilst its wet.
-
Jetting it 1st is just to get heavy soil off foam will get the rest then hand wash to get the remainder :)
-
See I prefer to snow foam the car when it's dry...wonder if I should try it whilst its wet.
I'd always give the car a quick spray first to moisten and loosen the dirt, then snow foam. If using a jet washer, use it at a 45o angle (not 90o) and not too close to avoid damaging the paintwork.
-
I prefer the new easy to use sealants these days ... they save so much time and are so much more versatile than a wax covering the paint, black trim, windows, alloys etc.
My favourite for a long time has been Gtechniq C2v3, but I've recently tried the CarPro Hydro2 Lite and Gyeon WetCoat and been very impressed with the gloss they give, as well as the sheeting.
This is C2v3 sheeting (click on pic to play video) :
(http://i1051.photobucket.com/albums/s422/JonnyGCars/th_MAH00882_zpsyepktwlo.mp4) (http://i1051.photobucket.com/albums/s422/JonnyGCars/MAH00882_zpsyepktwlo.mp4)
-
Yep now that looks decent
-
JonnyG - Great sheeting with the Gtechniq C2V3. It's highly rated on here by many. Agree the new breed of sealants offer great results, longevity and ease of application, all of which is a very attractive package.
But I do like wax and you can get some pretty decent sheeting results, though there can be quite a difference between them. A while back I did a wax comparison with a couple of sheeting vids.
http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=269693.0
Auto Finesse Desire on the driver's side v DoDo Juice Blue Velvet Pro on passenger side.
Sheeting just after application. http://youtu.be/sQ_PMLXbPps
Sheeting 2 weeks later http://youtu.be/_cviTQt22yg
The DJ came out top for me. AF Desire gave a nice glossy finish but was a total let down in all other respects. Not cheap either!
-
Auto Finesse Power Seal followed by 2 coats of AF Soul Wax. Then Sonax BSD every week when I wash it - 3 months on the beading/protection is still immense. Highly recommend the AF Power Seal...
Could have probably got away without applying the Wax over the top but wanted to bring out the dark colours.
