Can anyone help. I've just had a new fuel pump fitted now the 1 which the garage put on means there's no need for that plastic housing anymore . But now when I come to start it the battery is dead or no enough spark from the plugs maybe or both. I get 1 shot to start it after that the battery dies. In it's defence though it has been sat for a while well it's been sat for a week at the garage. When it was fixed yesterday I took her out for about 20 minutes then when I come to start her to move into the garage it didn't fire the 1st time battery sounded like it was dying but started the 2nd time. Hope this makes sense. Cheers guys have a good weekend

you need that plastic housing as that stores fuel so engine doesn't cut out on long corners when tank is a bit low on fuel.
-
try the easy stuff first...put the battery on a charger for a few hours
if that doesn't fix it either the battery is kapput .
.. or you need to go back to the garage that fitted the fuel pump..
1 why does it not need the plastic cover ?
2 is it the right pump for your car ?
because perhaps it may be draining the battery, if it isn't the correct one ?

take it back to garage and tell them to put it right. I see no reason for them not to have fitted the proper pump to the car. they are still available.

is the 8v &the 16v pump the same ?
if not they may have made an error.. ie right year , but wrong part ?

He got the right pump for a 16v the plastic housing was knackered it was split so was leaking everywhere I found a 2nd hand 1 and had the same problem so he set it up with a fuel pump that didn't need the plastic housing. Runs perfect when it's warm when cold it stops for a split 2nd and goes again. I went out this morning and no charge to fire her up at all so I'm picking a new battery up this afternoon hopefully it will sort the problem. Thanks for the info lads
