Title: GTD build Times
Post by: Cossieian on 18 June 2015, 21:07
So I ordered my new GTD this week, dealer reckons I'll have it in 8-12 weeks, I thought that was a little optimistic.
Anyone ordered one recently and know a realistic timescale??

I'm in no real panic as I still get to drive my current GTD

Really wanted DSG plus I wanted to release all my savings from my current car, so went PCP instead of buying outright, didn't see the point in having £20k savings in a depreciating Assit, just hope I've done the right thing lol
Was going to go for an R but with the miles we do it wouldn't be the best decision  :undecided:

Do you plan to buy the car at the end of the PCP agreement out of interest?

I buy my cars outright like you did with yours, the way I look at it I am borrowing the money interest free from myself rather than pay interest to another party. If you need the 20k fair enough to release the equity.
I often wonder like yourself if it's best going the pcp or lease route but I always conclude that if you can buy without the need for credit and get a decent discount it's more efficient.
I can see where your coming from though Cossieian.

Yea I've thought about it over and over in my head and I just decided to heck wif it, just try it and see how it goes, at the end of the day if I don't like it I can always change my mind and just buy a car outright again with the money, sure I'll pay a bit of interest along the way but hey it's better than pissing it up a wall

Yeah it's probably as long as it is broad.
Looks a good spec and DSG is fantastic.

I was expecting my build week 28 to confirm today and was then told yesterday I'm now sitting on BW40! Initially was BW22.

Absolute madness how a company such as VW can have an 18 week variation in build date!

Hopefully you might have better luck than me!

Car Ordered - 28-1-2015
Order Accepted - 16-2-2015

"Original Date" (I guess this is expected date) - 8-8-2015!!!!!!!!

That will be 27 weeks if the case!

Had my R confirmed today at 21 weeks and he reckoned that GTD's are the same but couldn't offer an explanation as to why.

It was either on a German magazine or German car news site.

Came across it whilst surfing.

My Gti arrived in 10 weeks, even the Stealer was surprised! I assumed it must have been someone's cancelled order, but turns out not. Miracles do happen!

I'm totally new to this forum and I ordered a GTI 24 April and it arrived on Monday. Makes that under two months turnaround. Pretty impressed with it but wondering how Wolfsburg managed it. Must be a catch somewhere! Got build week almost 1st week in. Not much spec above base model! Excited to collect her soon. No more taxis for me and getting pooed on by seagulls!

That sounds like its been an order in the system that has been cancelled by a previous owner which happened to have the exact same specs as yours. Especially since you had a build week in the 1st week.

Was that a confirmed build week? i.e. the car was built 4 weeks from that date?

Welcome by the way. Its a friendly bunch on here

Hello! Thanks :) been a fly on the wall for a while but thought now the dream is real I'll contribute a bit more here! :D Yes, confirmed build week the following Friday I ordered, and they stuck to the schedule with it being built within days of it commencing (as promised BW22). Astonished to see some of the discrepancy between R and GTD against GTI model build times at the moment, even if mine was a cancelled order!

Mine is a new order placed on 01.05.15 - Tracker update today is that the car is built and at Stage 5a - left the factory.  I ordered it with being told to allow 19 weeks as I will register it as a 65 plate, so it's going to be here well in advance of that - happy days!

Hi Cossieian - would you recommend a VW dealer in NI? Sorry for going off topic but I noticed you're in NI

Yes, I dealt with Agnews Mallusk, some people seem to not like them but I find them really good, they came within a couple of hundred £££s of the broker price I quoted them, which tbh they also have to pay for delivery I think. This was good enough for me
This will be my 3rd car from them in 2 years so maybe their trying to keep me sweet lol

As an exercise I've requested a quote from Philips in Lisburn, so I'll see what they come up with

I tried Edwin May also, left the showroom so angry as the sales guy basically said all my prices were a ly and I made them up, I feel like phoning now and showing them my order form lol

Good luck dude

PS recieved my build date yesterday, it was originally BW40, but has come forward to BW35 for some reason :undecided:
