Sorry if this has been asked before. As you may know, I have a 2013 Golf GTD fitted with the Discover Nav Pro headunit (firmware 0200), and it came delivered from the factory with the MDI socket ahead of the gearbox.
As my Wife and I use multiple phones (mines an Iphone 6 and hers is an Android), it's a right royal pain trying to unplug the MDI connector when we drive each others car, as there's very little space inside to unplug the damn thing - (as it's not easy at the best of times, and I always fear I'll break it), and swap the connector over. Further more, unlike my MDI connector for my previous Iphone 4s (the 30 pin connector), my Iphone 6 version (lightning plug), won't show any videos from the Iphone but will on my old ipod touch using the 30 pin connector.
I went out in a friends GT the other day (with standard Nav - 2015 plate) and it had the USB and AUX ahead of the gear stick and it was so much easier to plug and unplug leads form this. Therefore I was thinking it would be just easier to swap the MDI connection over for the USB (and AUX) socket in place of my MDI. I know I can use bluetooth streaming, but I like the idea of charging the phone whilst in use, especially on long journeys with the one connection.
Does anyone know if this is a) retrofittable b) would work with the setup described (i.e. play, charge and show videos), and c) would it involve additional coding via VCDS (which I have) ?
Many thanks in advance.

Just get the USB MDI cable or am I missing something?

Got one Pete, doesn't seem to work with my Iphone 6 ? Unless I have an out of data cable ?

I use a sub cable with mine, and it works fine to play music etc, I use a genuine iPhone lead from the Apple Store. Don't know if that makes a difference. I only have the standard CMS

Ah right - I moved away from the iPhone a few years ago (still a macbook and iPads lol) but thought it may just be charging you're looking for (and play via BT) in which case I assumed charging would be fine via MDI USB?
Make sure the cable is genuine or MFI certified.
