Title: Ere John, gotta new motor?
Post by: Snooze on 31 May 2015, 18:38
So took the new wheels out for Sunday afternoon spin today. Great drive and very comfy. Don't think I'll ever take it out of sport mode tho! Only negatives are the delay on the electric throttle is even more pronounced than on my mk6. The soundaktor is very irritating, can it be disabled? And lastly the wheels just don't fill the arches properly for my liking. It's almost like the wheels are the wrong offset? I think some spacers would sort this, but at the same time not sure whether they are such a gd idea?

That looks stunning Snooze

Carbon grey is a gorgeous colour, and lthe best with the red stripe on the GTI imo.  If it had been an option on the R, I would have been seriously tempted.

Edit:  Not sure what problems you're having but I saw the pic.  it's the IMG code you need to post to get them to embed.

Looking good Snooze!

The wheels are ridiculously too far into the arches on a MK7, quite a few on here running spacers. I had aftermarket wheels on mine which filled the arches better but have just switched back to standard and am not liking what I see!
10-12mm front and 15-20 rear recommended.

The soundaktor is noisiest on sport but can be switched down or off via VCDS or a dealer.

And lastly - the first thing I did with my mk7 was fit a pedal box (DTUK) as the throttle delay is horrendous. Best money I spent on the car.

I too have a DTUK pedal box on my DSG. Brilliant piece of kit no more problems with throttle response. Also turned soundaktor off. Much better in my opinion.

Carbon Grey and Tornado Red are my primary colours of choice followed by Reflex Silver. I wish the R was available in Carbon Grey. But my all time favourite is Carmen Red (metallic) and is only available on the cheapo Golfs. If I ever buy another Golf, I will demand this colour.

Cheers Booth. Very happy with the colour. Glad I didn't get white. I have a neighbour with an R and I'm very jealous. It even looks good despite being in red!

Yeah don't know why I'm having trouble with the pics. Been a while since I posted one!

Glad I'm not the only one who thinks spacers are needed! I'll do a post search. If I got say 10mm spacers would I need longer bokts? You'll have to let me know what spacers u end up getting.

Trip to the stealers it is!

Ah yes I've seen mention of pedal boxes before. How much did that set you back?

You'll definitely need longer bolts with spacers, many of the decent kits will come with good quality longer bolts.
I think GrahamFR runs spacers from memory, he's not the only one though.
Aitchi has an ECS spacer kit too.

Nice car. I've just had my sound actuator turned down to 25% and its great. Its almost nonexistent in normal driving but has a nice deep growl on full throttle.

Very nice indeed. I thought the GTi badges on the front and back were now all red or do they still do the chrome ones as well.

Red badges on the performance pack, silver on the regular GTI.
I'm also a tad disappointed in the throttle response after my mk5 GTI.

Hi Snooze

It's easier to show you with help of screenshots.  In overall gallery view you'll see 3 lines symbol on each thumbnail, click or touch the symbol and a mini menu comes up, choose 'share links' (pic1) and the 'share the photo' box comes up (pic2).  In the right hand pane, last box down - IMG, copy and paste that code into your post and voila!

There maybe a quicker way of doing it but as I don't use Photobucket I don't know.  They are forever changing these hosting accounts interface so it's easy to forget.  I use Flickr and they changed that and it's a right faff now to get the code required for forum sharing

So I drove the new car too and from work today and I must say I'm beginning to really enjoy it now. I was a bit unsure yesterday as I really don't like change and I found myself thinking perhaps I should have kept the mk6! I have however found another floor with the mk7. The steering lock has got worse. Another thing that makes me think the wheels are the wrong offset!

I was absolutely torn between pure white and carbon grey and opted for the carbon grey.....I still really like the pure white so really hope I made the right decision.....love seeing the pics of the carbon grey and it does go very well with the red detail and interior I think.

I'm sure you won't be disappointed.  I think Carbon Grey is one of the nicest colours for both the GTD and GTI.  Looks equally good with the silver stripe and the red lipstick.   It's a real shame it wasn't an option for the R

I don't think you'll regret it asbost. I'm chuffed with CSG. Looks even better in the flesh. I can't help but feel White has had its day tbh.

excellent colour choice, dont think it will be easy to keep it clean though, they are still building houses in my street and the dust covers the car as soon as it has been cleaned.

no such things as the best colour. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Everyone wants to think they have the best colour. Lucky to have the problem in that you can afford to buy a new car and chose the colour. Cant see the colour when you driving, so who is it for ? Anyway for the record, oak green
