Title: Rear brake spec
Post by: maxgtikent on 29 May 2015, 20:44
I have an 03 anniversary gti diesel 1.9. The rear calipers are pretty seized so I am looking to replace them. I think the current discs are vented 256mm. The caliper body looks to have  no grooves in the casing just smooth and squarish.

I have obtained a good pair of calipers from an 02 petrol 2.0 gti that I am planning to overhaul. They are the ones that have the grooves on the caliper body but I was told they are correct for 232mm solid discs.
Checking the spec with Euros suggests that my anniversary can have both size discs fitted.

I think I can fit the new calipers and 232mm discs as the Euros spec indicate the centre diameter and hole configuration are identical on both size discs. Any advice appreciated.

Nope. You need 256's

Equally why would you fit smaller discs??

If you can have the car off the road for a few days, have you thought to strip and rebuild the existing calipers?
As Rhys said, why fit smaller brakes on an Anni?

I am going to rebuild the current calipers as you suggest. I will flog the other calipers on eBay for £20 inc good Textar pads plus I have cleaned them up well and wound in Pistons. Anyone interested?
