Hey guys, as so as you know I had a long list of issues with my GTI which I had mapped with Revo. (I'm not saying any of my issues were Revo related)
Due to the fact my map was only on there for a month Revo have said they will transfer the map to my R.
So the question is do I do it?
Anyone with an R got it revo'd, any issues.
Also any problems with maps on a DSG box?
-
i think when you have to resort to a forum to ask whether you should or should not modify you car the answer is leave it alone as you will never be disappointed
-
It just feels like a waste having a free Revo map available to me and not using it lol
-
Why do you want to dance with the devil? Leave it alone and preserve your warranty and an already highly stressed 2 litre engine.
-
I'd be tempted and if there was any trouble I'd get it taken off and keep it standard.

Having the same dilemma at the moment.A friend of mine got his 7r revoed recently & invited me to take it for spin & I must say it was very impressive (super car fast) but now in the last couple of weeks the car is giving him problems when Accelerating hard form standstill, at first it was warning him of a overheating gearbox & now it bounces off the limiter in 1st gear & won't give him 2nd until he back later off.I spoke to revo about this at a recent show, they tell me that one of there test cars had the same problem, which was down to tires not being very good, & making the Ecu have a spasm ( not sure if I believe that one ) but it has now left me in a bit of doubt whether to get it done. Below is a clip of my friends revo 7r having the gearbox warning.

That's a weird warning. This is my concern. My warranty doesn't scare me at all. I got through 14 warranty claims with a Revo map on my GTI without a problem so can't see why this would be different. I want a bit more power but don't want to rip it over the edge.
Is your friends DSG or manual?

Unrelated in specifics but, Interesting comments from the OP in this thread about APR. It does make you wonder what these companies actually do to test suitability/longevity, aside from getting the map to stop throwing lights , Do you think they do any oil analysis?

This business of remapping an already stressed and slightly unreliable R engine is crazy as you are trying to get Porsche performance on the cheap. Something has to give. Most probably your engine and definitely your warranty. To some this is worth the risk.
If you want a faster car, go buy one.
Be happy with your stock R. It is 'real world' fast enough IMO.

It's a DSG, I have told to use the sps switch & revert it back to stock, then try to replicate the problem, but he hasn't got round to it yet, but like yourself I had a major 8k warranty repair when the bottom engine mount broke causing my revoed gti needing a new DSG, catalytic converter, rad, various over parts. I will probably leave mine stock for now as I have put a deposit on a r400, but if the r400 turns out to be above my pay grade when prices are announced,I'll take my deposit back & use the money on a map.

Were the 14 warranty claims on your gti all engine and drive train related? If yes them I'd be staying well clear of revo as you're not the first to have such issues.

^^
This. And it sounds likes you have sufficient doubt in your own mind to steer clear of the Revo.

Flywheel, clutch, gearbox and inlet manifold were all drivetrain after the map, but I'm 90% sure the clutch was slipping before the map. What about a tuning box from DTUK?

Less likely to be detected/harder to prove fitment than a remap, I was a big fan of the DTUK GTD box (and now my Dad is) - couldn't form an opinion on the petrol GTI/R set-up.
-
I vote yes FULL Fecking POWER!
2 reasons...
Its FREE!
and did you not get warranty work done regardless of your map??

I'd recommend a DTUK tuning box - whilst the outright gains might not be the same as a remap, the strain on the components is also reduced accordingly. Got one on the GTI and love it!
-
Yep all warranty work was done after the remap. In fact the flywheel and clutch went in without the map being removed. Difficult to drive to revo dealer with a slipping clutch and all.

How exactly is this so given the claim similar figures?
-
Can you get a refund and try a different remap?? :undecided:
I'd run the car in for at least 3 months just in case there are any issues that develop. Then unleash its potential!!
On a positive note you have categorically smashed all the myths and rumours surrounding the TD1 warranty flag

I had a mk7 GTD (got f*cked off with the tramping and it being too slow) so opted for a DTUK box which was a great tweak. I now have an R (2500 miles in now) with a DTUK box, fitted it just after I passed 1000 miles. The difference is brilliant, in 3rd and up. Next to no difference that I can see in 1st and 2nd. Id love to have it mapped but worried for warranty issues. But a stage 1 is well within the cars parameters and providing your not honing it every 2 seconds I cant imagine many issues. Id try DTUK box first, as you can always sell it on if your not happy or send it back to DTUK within the 1st week for your money back. At least if I do opt for a map down the line I will recoup some of the £360 I spent on the box. Takes like 40mins to fit, pretty easy. Could have done it quicker but wanted to take my time. Worth a shot!!!

If I were in your shoes I think I'd run the car in properly then get REVO to send a low boost file that's less aggressive if it were 'free'.
If you still get issues then as others have suggested here, a DTUK box would be a good investmemt. The power comes in on the tuning box far more like a factory map unless you go a bit bonkers with the settings.
And you will have no traction issues with an R!

I presume he's getting at the fact that it is an amplification of the original VW set-up, rather than being very aggressively set-up in the lower end. Like the original torque/power curve, but a bit more.
The tuning box does have resale value too - something to also keep in mind.

Carbon remap with hand held flash unit. You won't get all your money back if you try and return your dtuk box.
