Title: Build Week 21 is finally here
Post by: Diehammer on 17 May 2015, 23:17
Getting excited now, hopefully get my stage 4 email in the morning.

Handed my documentation for my private plate into the dealer today and he was saying that he would expect my car to be ready for collection week beginning 8th June so only 4 weeks away.

Already created an account on marinetraffic.com to track the ships just need to get the names of all the ones that are likely to go to Tyne now.

Hopefully you get your notifications quickly. The tracker becomes interesting now!!!

Mine skipped stage 4 and went straight to 5a.

I'm just waiting for my car to get to the dealer now. Hopefully not long.

City of Amsterdam, City of Sunderland and City of Paris. Sunderland and Paris have both been in the last few days (Paris is still at Tyne), Amsterdam is due in on Thursday. Been waiting 18 days so far for a ship for my R sat at Emden - not as quick as the usual Emden>Tyne service.

Yeh that's so strange that yours has been at Emden for 18 days!!! Hopefully it will come through this week!

My order was scheduled for BW21 as well but when I've logged on to do my daily check on the tracker today, my order number has not been recognised?

I assume this may be a glitch due to something being updated at their end but still slightly worrying!

I think the tracker goes down in the mornings to update but I used to get all my texts and updates between 8.45 & 9.00.

Sounds a strange one. Hopefully Ronald has some news for you today instead of the "congrats its arrived at Emden bs". I have emailed and called my dealer for news on my car. I feel like I'm majorly pestering but its been 80 odd days since ordering. its been 6 days since I got my stage 6.

Going in on Thursday hopefully to sort my finance out etc.

More BS, I got my phonecall shortly after leaving work.

He seemed to remember me as he didn't try to make out that the car being at Emden (still) was progress. Instead he tried to convince me on numerous occasions that 34 weeks for an R was now the norm, and moving from 5b to 5c in 10 working days was the exception rather than the rule - which completely contradicted the last conversation we had. Of course I had to pull him on it and mention that someone on a BW19 had already had their R arrive in the UK via Tyne dock (the same dock mine will be coming via), yet mine built a week earlier had not moved.

I said it seemed either suspicious or completely lacking in organisation that cars built after mine were getting shipped and said "I hope it hasn't had an accident at Emden".

After about the 5th time of him saying that since October, 34 weeks was now normal lead time for an R, I mentioned that plenty of people on an R specific forum were getting their cars in 5 to 6 months, and that my car was ordered prior to October. I pressed him for an explanation as to why my Sept order R still seems to officially be a Dec ordered car (as he said he'd find out last time we spoke), and once again he had no answer. I stated that this was my 8th new VW and i'd never experienced a delay like this (the GTD came closest at 6 months, but there was a mix-up between mine and my dad's GTDs at the dealership - so there's a known reason for that). I asked when the MK8 R was due as I might have to put my order in for it soon.

He said that he was quietly confident that my car would be on the next ship, but had absolutely no info to back taht up, I asked if he knew when the next ship was to Tyne from Emden and he didn't know. I told him it was the "City of Amsterdam", due in Thurs lunchtime, and if it wasn't on that then the next ship was at least a week away - which would mean 4 weeks stuck at Emden. He had no answer.

I said that the main reason I was giving him a hard time was because my GTD's tyres are getting close to the legal limit, and the poor Bridgestone tyres VW seem to insist on fitting to UK bound Golfs were pretty slippery when new. Approaching 3 months beyond expected delivery, I said that I would take great exception to having to stump up for 2 tyres to stay legal right on the verge of getting my new R. Ronald said that if my car doesn't get on the next ship to Tyne, they might stick me in a courtesy car to save my tyres - I asked whether it would be an R and he laughed.

I mentioned that i'd been to Berlin recently and said that had I known how long my car would languish at Emden, i'd have saved myself the cost of the flights home and driven it from Wolfsburg!

We called it a day after 20 mins, he's ringing me again on Friday. Lets see what pearls of wisdom I get there if my car isn't on the City of Amsterdam.

Sorry to hear he had no answers and is just blagging it. Its like salesmen assume you are an idiot and they can feed you crap. We had it when we moved into our house. Persimmon were terrible then and gave us excuse after excuse about why we were 4 months late moving in.

Really hope he has better news for you on Friday!!!

Ben I was the same with persimmon, they took over 7 months to build my house last year. They are on watchdog this week for something maybe vw UK should be on it as well.

Monkeyhanger I noticed that about the ships today as well. Hopefully mine will be on the City of Amsterdam this week as well.

I mentioned to him also that it seems as though he is thoroughly unprepared every time he calls. The fact that I know when the next ship is going from Emden to Tyne and he does not, let alone whether my car is scheduled to cadge a lift on it is pretty poor form.

He did say he's got a lot of complainants to deal with regarding late builds and delivery right now. I asked if there were any delays on the Polo right now. Thankfully he said no - almost certainly going to be ordering the missus a Polo GTI in the next month - just have to be sure of the finer details of the incentives (if the car is late, when do the offers expire etc).

New build houses - lots of fun and games - did it once and had a 3 page snag list, about 1/3 of the work got done. That was Barratts, they're all as bad as each other. Mine was built on time though.

Yeh me and the Mrs will be watching that!!! Bloody nightmares some of these companies. Hopefully VW will sort Monkeyhanger's car out and compensate accordingly. Sometimes we all try to get something for nothing but he genuinely deserves something to make up for the cock ups!!

Mine still hasn't moved from Stage 3 yet.

My dealer sent me an e-mail confirming it is scheduled for BW21, but then insists that this week is actually week 20?

Not quite sure what he's up to!

This is definitely BW 21 m8. Your dealer is at it. On the bright side though it looks like you will get MIB II

That's what I thought.

I kindly provided him a link to the Week Numbers website and told him it was actually 21.

Will see what happens next however he is conveniently going on leave for a week haha.

It's only a week at the end of the day and the MIB II would be the silver lining.

Every cloud and all that

Well the City of Amsterdam is on its way to Newcastle, hopefully my car & monkeyhangers car are on board.

I have had a phonecall from my salesman today. He rang up VW UK to have a moan at them, only for them to say it is on the City of Amsterdam. His system doesn't show that it is on the ship, and the customer's tracker for stage 5 hasn't changed from "3 weeks to delivery" (as is the case for 5b), nor have I had a 5c text. Hopefully i'll have a stage 6 text tomorrow afternoon (or does that happen after the car has cleared customs rather than when the ship is unloaded? Can't remember.).

Pulman have just got a Polo GTI demonstrator in too, so i'll have to get a test drive in that as it is on the shortlist for the wife's car.

Might be looking at Tues/Weds for my car if they come and get it from the dock like they did for my dad's GTD.

Hopefully yours will be on there too Diehammer. I've asked my salesman not to let it near the auto car wash at Pulman's Durham branch.

Post by: Diehammer on 20 May 2015, 17:16
I have heard about 5b being skipped regularly so hopefully we will go straight to 5c tomorrow morning and hopefully a 6 in the next couple of days.

Why would they put a brand new car anywhere near an auto wash? going to tell my dealer not to bother washing it i think.
Title: Re: Build Week 21 is finally here
Post by: monkeyhanger on 20 May 2015, 17:25
I got my 5b text 21 days ago - it's the 5c text that has been skipped. Maybe i'll get a stage 6 late tomorrow. My dealer is confident about a mid-week pick-up and he said he'll try and pick me a "nice" plate from the ones available too.

I would make sure the dealership you use doesn't have an auto wash (the Sunderland Pulman branch where I have got my previous VWs from doesn't have one). Need to buy some Iron X.

It is 5 on the tracker, but if you signed up for text or email alerts on the tracker page with your mobile number/email address, you get your stage 5 broken down into specifics:-

5a – left Wolfsburg for Emden
5b – arrived at Emden, waiting to get booked on a ship (usually a day after 5a)
5c –Has gotten onto a ship (could be 7-25 days after 5b, you’ll likely get it the morning after the ship set off with your car)

Excellent your car is now on its way to the Emden car park to join mine. I usually get my updates by 9am so it looks like i missed the City of Amsterdam.

I have seen people say that they have went from 5b to 6 though so i am waiting to hear if Monkeyhanger got his stage 6 today as his R was on that ship, don't know if you get this as soon as it clears customs or if it will be the next again day. Do they even send updates on a Saturday?

No stage 6. The ship is in though. Perhaps if the car is not off the ship and logged in to the receiving compound at Tyne by the time the daily texts go out, you have to wait until the following day for notification?

Or perhaps notification happens after the car has cleared customs, because it isn't officially in the UK until it has passed customs (in much the same way that you haven't officially landed at your holiday destination until you clear their customs and passport control at the airport)?

There is still hope yet then. I was tracking the ship coming in yesterday and it docked around half 4. It must take them a while to get all the cars off never mind clearing customs etc.

Are you getting a call from Ronald today?
Title: Re: Build Week 21 is finally here
Post by: monkeyhanger on 22 May 2015, 18:07
Diehammer: I certainly did get a call....

Ronald called me up this morning just to tell me that my car was on a ship, on it's way over - would be arriving in port in a few days. I asked if it was coming over on a Pedalo as the distance will be in the region of 300 miles from Emden to Tyne and it set sail on Weds lunchtime. He seemed a bit embarassed, so I let him off the hook by telling him the ship arrived into Tyne yesterday afternoon around 4pm, that it would likely take 36 hours to be unloaded and cleared through customs and then it'll wait until VW UK's transport agents arrange for it to be transported to the dealership.

He seemed surprised I knew all that and said he would call me again on Tuesday to tell me when it was scheduled to move from Tyne to the dealership in Durham (about 22 miles). As he said he was calling back, I never pushed him about goodwill - I will be directly and bluntly be asking that question on Tuesday if he doesn't bring it up.

I have not had a stage 6, nor a stage 7 at this point. If cars move to dealerships any day of the week (including bank holidays), mine might actually be there now or getting there tomorrow. Never known a Tyne arrived VW take more than 4 days to get to Benfield or Pulman dealerships (i've had 7 new VWs from one or the other of these dealership groups), and one of those arrived at the dealership on a Sunday.

Just called VW UK and was told that my car is still at Emden and that it usually takes 10 working days to get to the UK so it should be in Tyne by the 5th June. Must be taking the bank holiday yesterday into account as well but as far as I am aware shipping companies don't do holidays.

Worst bit is that I now know that it hasn't been put on a ship yet and the next one isn't due into Emden until Thursday but it might not even be heading to Tyne.

probably went to Grimsby instead of Tyne. Monkeyhanger's R had been sitting at Emden since Adam was a boy so i havent a clue how they work it.

Just checked Port of Tyne arrivals and there are 3 ships due in the next 6 days 30th/31st/2nd so it must be on one of those.

Monkeyhanger how did you get on with Ronald yesterday?

Diehammer: He never called. Maybe he made an executive decision based on the fact that he had no news for me. I will be ringing him today. Still no stage 6, 6 days after the car landed at Tyne. Something fishy may be going on. Never in 7 cars have I had a new VW arrive at Tyne take more than 36 hours to clear customs. This period is as quiet as it gets for car shipments into the UK - right between March and Sept for the new plates.

Has it had a bump?

At least your dealer has confirmation that its there. I have been waiting a week for a 5c now but the City of Amsterdam was the last Emden to Tyne so probably just missed that (I have no idea how many cars these ships can carry, they also look like they pick up Volvo's in Sweden). I am getting impatient now because i know it is so close.

Called Ronald at 1:30pm and he was "on the other phone". A colleague of his took my name and number and said he'd call back....he didn't.

Around 3pm, I got an email from my dealer, he provided me with a screen dump of his system, showing that as of today, the car officially entered port of Tyne ("PoEn" - port of entry, must mean it has cleared customs to be officially recognised as being in the country), as you can clearly see that it shipped on the 20th of May. He said he was checking status hourly to see when it changes to being booked into the compound (compound entry field is still blank). As soon as it has done that then he can come get it with a flatbed rather than waiting for VWUK's delivery agents to send it.

I'll keep an eye out for it - my house overlooks the mouth of the Tyne.

As 5b is at Emden awaiting ship.

Pretty sure 5c is on ship

As next stage is 6 'arrived at port'

Yep.   Nicked from some ancient thread:

5a: in transit:left the factory - on it's way to Emden.

5b: in transit:shipping - at Emden waiting a boat. Normally received 48 hours after 5a.

5c: in transit:nearly here - on boat to either Grimsby, Tyne or Sheerness depending on dealer location.  At this stage VW can give you the name of the boat, but it sometimes skips this stage.  Now states 10 days to dealer.

6. Arrived in the UK - as stated, takes up to 10 days apparently, although they try and do it within 7.

7. At dealer - just needs PDI and valet and is ready for you.

Thanks guys, hopefully Stage 6 wont be as long a wait as Monkeyhanger had. I am still hoping to collect next weekend as long as my dealer has my private reg ready to go. Going to give him a call at lunchtime.

When I got my GTI, the tracker took 2 weeks after I'd picked it up to tell me my car had arrived at the dealers

My GTD is finally in the UK but still on the ship. Who cares it's getting close now. Hopefully get my Stage 6 over the weekend.

Dealer said that the private plate is ready to go on and I should be able to collect it at the end of next week.

General experience of 7 previous new VWs bought from North East dealers, with the car coming in through Tyne is 36 hours for the car to clear customs after landing and being unloaded. Not sure what happened with mine this time (6 days!), but if it's quick, perhaps yours will be on its way to the dealership on Wednesday. Good luck!

Dealer says car cleared customs last night and transport was ordered at the same time but not allocated yet. Says this can take up to a couple of weeks. Going through on Saturday to sign my finance documents and V5 document will be dated the 8th June so that I can pick the car up as soon as possible.

Stage 7 received this morning, called the dealer and the car isnt there yet. I am taking it that this text only means that it has left the port.

Good news is that if it comes in today i can pick it up on saturday
