Title: Sat nav no audio guidance

Hi Have recently bought MkV11 GTI with sport pack. Sat nav does not give verbal guidance, have adjusted guidance volume to max intro message is very loud  but no guidance messages are given- just the visual instruction. Main dealer is absolutely useless can anyone help

There should be an option in the setup tab for guidance options or similar, you can set what you want announced and turn the announcements on or off, it's all in the manual.

Also you can try using the voice guidance via the steering wheel button and saying "navigation announcements on" :smiley:

 Hi Thanks for reply My manual doesn't give any guidance on verbal messages except for how to change volume, it just assumes it will work. Car is an ex demonstrator so maybe someone has messed with settings  but can't find anything under "advanced set up for navigation.
Dealer suggested updating SD card but website suggests this could take 8 hours to download (guess this assumes  dial up) and needs a 32 G SD card- yet existing card is only 7G- guess they are just trying to get you to buy a preloaded SD card to update it

It's probably set to "congestion only" so it'll only say something if there is congestion on your route, from the navigation screen tap the setup button from the bottom right and you should see a tab for navigation announcements, make sure that is set to comprehensive or brief, failing that mate i've no idea??

If you've just got the navigation system then you use the existing SD card supplied. If you've got nav pro then you need the bigger sd card. Depending on what you have will mean a smaller or bigger download of updated maps.

I almost never use mine so I'm probably the worst person to offer any advice but having just had a nose at the settings in mine (basic Discover Nav) there aren't many settings that you can change.
One obvious one to look at is whether the "don't interrupt when on the phone" icon is ticked. If so then that would suggest there is a deeper problem as the unit would think you're making a call.
There are so few settings on the basic nav that I'd guess at a software issue.
Surely the dealership could raise the issue with VW if they can't sort it. VW HQ will have a trained person able to give advice or visit the dealership under desperate circumstances.
The car should be fully working and if you spent £750 on a nav you'd expect it to work so VW are obliged to sort this for you on a car this new.
Although it is a good idea to message on here to see if anyone else has had a similar issue which can be simply resolved.

Thanks for your reply- my screen doesn't have the same options- only volume (now set to max and No guidance during phone call)
Just sent another stroppy email to dealership
Asked for advice on this 2 weeks ago and am now supposed to wait another 10 days before they will look at it to determine if there is a fault
Advice JCT600 IN sHEFFIELD ARE BEST AVOIDED

Have you tried it with the nav guidance interruption un-ticked?

Kicked off with dealer and got car looked at today- now working but took garage employee about 45 mins says has never come across it before- forget the Sat nav set up menus, there is a sub menu under another sub menu under the music audio menu which was set to zero!

Is that the nav annoucement volume then? Is that what you mean?

Don't know where last post went but thanks to all of you for your help, Finally got an answer from dealers went down took them 45 mins to find problem- it was not in the Nav menu but in the audio menu to a sub menu for music to another sat nav menu to a tick box to mute the sat nav-- Don't you just love technology

The earlier menu or something similar was always available- it just didn't make any difference there was always a tiny icon in the top bar showing a loudspeaker with a line through it and no voice
