Title: Times from UK port to dealer
Post by: benmartingolf on 14 May 2015, 17:57
Hi Guys & Girls

Just wondering what times people found their cars moved from the port in the UK to the dealer?

Mine came into port yesterday so was just curious.

Thanks

Ben

Tyne bound cars usually move quite quickly, but my car has been at Emden for 2 weeks today. 2 ships have left Emden for Tyne in the time my car has been there, but the 1st was only a day after. Confident it will move tomorrow or over the weekend - there are 3 Emden to Tyne shippings between tomorrow and Sunday that usually carry VW cars.

Depends on when the dealer requests the car!

mine has been at UK port since last Thursday, but dealer didn't request it until yesterday (apparently no space at dealership) it should be with dealer Monday!

2 days is quick. My dealer told me if it got delivered on Monday they should be able to get it to me by the weekend.

This next week is going to drag.

That's impressive. Hopefully my dealer is under promising and will have it sooner. That is optimistic. Your car looks great, I saw it on another thread. Must be great to have your hands on it. how long were you waiting?

I got my hands on a cancelled order that was already build sat at emden, so in total only waited 6 weeks. It's missing the sat nav I wanted but otherwise is awesome. What have you ordered?

I ordered a GTI PP, DSG, Pure White, Keyless & Tech pack.

Really excited to get it now.

That was lucky to get a cancelled order. I have been pretty lucky to date I ordered 25th Feb and got from stage 3 to stage 6 in the last 8 days.

Going by these post I might have my car in 4 weeks which isn't ideal as I am going to have a 550 mile round trip a week later and only 36 miles non motorway. Hopefully I can delay picking it up until week beginning the 22nd as I still need to get rid of my current car as well.

Also still waiting on my number plate certificate from the dvla.

Arnt you BW 21 Diehammer? It seems like its not taking too long at the moment getting to the UK a few guys I have spoken to have had theirs built and shipped and in the UK within 10 days. Im sure you can get it put back until when you're back!!!

Yeah BW21 so by this time next week it should have left the factory, it will more than likely be going to Tyne as well which I have heard is really quick. I will have to give my dealer a call if things start moving as quickly as yours even if they could put it back to the 19th I would be happy. Will just tell them that I am on holiday.

Yeh I can't believe how quickly it has progressed since last Wednesday. However will be even happier once i know they have organised getting it down here.

Im sure the dealer will be cool with you collecting it then, not a spot on how long most of us have waited!!!

Tyne isn't being quick for me right now - 15 days since my stage 5b and still no movement. There is a Tyne-bound ship today, tomorrow and Sunday (and then nothing for 10 days) - if it isn't on Saturday's or Sunday's ship (I think I would've had my 5c if it was on today's ship already) then i'll have had by far the biggest wait i've seen for a Tyne-bound VW. They're usually shipped within a week from Emden to Tyne.

Vw quote 7 days

Actually turns out its 10 days.

Ten working days! According to Ronald at VW UK.

Had my follow up phonecall this afternoon that was supposed to tell me when my car is shipping to Tyne from Emden.

First thing he tells me (in a slightly congratulatory voice) is that my R has arrived in Emden. I tell him that it arrived there 15 days ago. He tells he that it should take no more than 10 days to get shipped upon arrival. In deadpan mode I inform him that last time I checked, 15 days was 50% longer than 10 days, so it should have shipped 5 days ago. He corrects the 10 days to 10 working days. I ask which days are working days as Wolfsburg has continuous shifts over 7 days a week. He replies every day except a bank holiday. I reply with the fact that Germany has only had 2 bank holidays in the last 15 days (1st and 14th), so it is still 3 days past expectation.

He said that there were a few ships coming over to Tyne from Emden this weekend, so I named them - saying one (City of Sunderland) had already set sail so if my car was on it, I would've received my 5c notification already. I said that the City of Paris was due in on Sunday and if it's not on that then the next ship after is the City of Amsterdam, due next Thursday.

He said he could not find out which ship it is due out on, that he would only know when it had been loaded. He said he'd ring on Tuesday, hopefully to tell me it had shipped.

He was about to go, so I asked him directly about goodwill gestures. He said that they don't decide on these until the car has arrived. I asked whether I could expect one for a car that has been 8 months coming. He squirmed a bit and said he'd discuss it further when the car arrived in the UK. I asked who funded the goodwill gesture, he avoided answering. I clarified that I did not want the dealership to be out of pocket to fund it, they've kept me informed every step of the way, and I got a good level of discount. I said it would be unfair to squeeze their bottom line for something I consider to be Volkswagen's fault.

He said all goodwill gestures have to be discussed between VW UK and the dealership. I reiterated my point about the dealership not being out of pocket for something beyond their control. He said something about VW UK and the dealership all being part of the same family and that's how it works.

Seems then that VW UK always pick the dealership's pocket to fund these goodwill gestures rather than touching their own bottom line.

I missed a call from my salesman about 90 mins later, just before the branch closed - coincidence? Or has Ronald had a word?

Why wouldn't you want to squeeze your dealers profits  :undecided:
wasn't it them who has caused all this extra delay when you added the Pretoria's to your order and allegedly they ordered a brand new car and kept your original in the system so they could line their pockets on someone who didn't want to wait ??
If this is the case I would want to have as big an effect as possible on their profit margins

I always assumed that when another unallocated order came in around the time mine was due (seemingly the same car), but VW UK are adamant that an order cannot be decoupled from a tracking/order number and reallocated to a new one when I suggested this probably happened. The other car couldn't have been mine if that was the case. Taking them at their word (would they lie to protect the dealer while opening themselves up to blame?), the dealership seems blameless.

If they are blameless then i'd like VW UK to take the hit, they should be able to afford it with 2 price rises and big currency gains in their favour since I ordered the car.

Agree absolutely if it was VW UK but something shady has occurred either way. You added Pretoria's and the lead time goes into meltdown.
I took over a unallocated vanilla 3dr Lapiz Blue DSG and added 19" Pretoria's, Sat Nav, Dynaudio, Rear View Camera and Keyless in mid November and the car was built week3 this year and was at the dealers pdi centre first week of Feb !!
Something stinks and whoever caused your unacceptable delays needs to compensate you handsomely!!

Good work MH.  Loving the 'not taking any sh!t' attitude with regards VW UK.  But I'm with JB on this one, who cares if the dealership have to take the hit on a goodwill gesture - as long as you get one what does it matter where it comes from.  The dealership may have not been directly responsible for this, quite frankly, shocking wait for a Golf (I honestly don't know how you haven't blown your top after 8 months ) but if they'd pulled their finger out and chased VW then I'm sure you would have got your car sooner than this.  You deserve a massive slice of VW goodwill!

Matchboy: It's a case of if the dealership are blameless, I want to be able to use them in the future, and be able to press for a good level of discount. Not wanting to burn my bridges with them or jeopardise my ability to push for a large level of discount - I don't want to be more trouble than i'm worth to them as a future customer.

It's also good to level the muck flinging further up the chain, you don't normally get the opportunity. When you get those customer satisfaction surveys after picking up your car, it is all aimed at your dealership experience only. They can penalise the dealership (by restricting bonuses tied to customer satisfaction that contribute to the dealership's bottom line), no such set of systems work for VW UK or VW AG unfortunately. They carry on being crap at the timely supply of cars and the customer has no real outlet to voice their opinion to anyone that can change their ways. I'm sure back at VW AG headquarters they all think they are doing a marvelous job, they never hear they opinions of you or I.

If I was buying via a broker I wouldn't care much who's fault it was or who was paying for the goodwill gesture.

Yep,

3 doors and DSG - a double no for my needs. Saw it the other week when I made a detour to Pulman Durham, on the way to Hartlepool to see my cousin....Mick was on holiday. They're holding out for RRP or close to yo. It was on Bridgestone RE050s (yes, I checked )

That's a fair point MH, I understand.  In that case I hope you get somewhere in terms of getting VW UK to take the blame as you're right, they always pass the blame downwards.

Well both weekend VW carrying ships have come in to Tyne and not a 5c or 6 notification in sight. City of Amsterdam on Thurs perhaps? That's 5 ships come in to Tyne from Emden since my car got there. Never known a Tyne car take so long to ship. More fun and games when Ronald mcDonald calls back on Tuesday methinks.
