I am the very happy owner of a 2015 GTI PP 5 door.
After my first service at 15,000km the dealer put a note to say both front tyres are worn to approx. 2mm on the inside edge and need to be replaced. The outside edge has > 6mm. They blamed 'soft performance tyres' and 'you must have hit a pothole to set the suspension out of alignment' as the cause of this wear.
I understand enough about tyre wear to know the signs of wear due to under / over inflation and this is not it. I also cannot find any marks or buckles on my alloys that may signify an impact (that I don't remember) that could have knocked the suspension geometry out of kilter. There is no vibration and the car tracks straight and true on the motorway.
Obviously I'm not happy with this. Uneven wear to this extent on both tyres is due to suspension misalignment. Wear at this rapid rate points to misalignment from when I drove my car off the forecourt.
My car covers approximately 1,300KM per week, almost all on motorway. I have been doing this crazy commute for over 7 years and am used to the wear this puts on tyres and brakes. Worst I have ever got from the tyres on the driven axle of a car is 30,000km, even on softer tyres like Conti 5's.
Has anyone had similar issues with tyre wear from new, and did VW 'fess up and remedy the situation?
Thanks,
ArtC

Which tyres (size and make) do you have on the car?
Sounds like it's out of alignment, to take it that much out you'd have to bang it hard... not saying it's impossible but would be difficult to get both sides equally off (if it was due to impact it would be more likely that e.g. left inside and right outside would wear more, rather than both insides).
Given car is only about 4 months old I would ask dealer politely to fix it under warranty.
30Mm is good live for a soft tyre like Conti S5.... my Contis are lucky to see a bit more than half that! And I thought Dunlops were bad for wear (thought Ds have superior grip) :D
Just don't get Pirelli P7, they are rock hard and tramp easily (lasted me 24k though compared to 15k on the Dunlops).

Just to clarify, this is tyre wear at 15,000km, or 9,000 miles. 8,000 of these miles have been on a motorway commute at a steady speed. If this is 'normal' wear then I will need to change my front tyres 3 times per year!

Strange
I managed to get around 15,000 miles out of my front set of 19" Pirelli P-Zero tyres and that was with around 10,000 motorway miles and 5,000 urban, they had a hard life in terms of cornering for the last 5,000 miles.
Replacement with P-Zero's again
