Title: Identify Me
Post by: Ajay on 12 May 2015, 22:17
Hi Folks,

I've got a mk1 golf with an AGU 1.8t engine and I'm curious.. what is this sensor missing a wire?

Cheers

looks like a coolant temp sensor of some kind, but it might not be relevant to your engine install. is your temp gauge working?

yes temp guage seems normal but I am getting code p0116 too. I think there is another sensor in the block (where it should be) hence my confusion =/

The fault I am trying to cure is over-fueling (strong petrol smell and low mpg)... also when its coming down the revs to idle it almost stalls and it's like an anti-stall system kicks in. There's no specific patern, it does it all the time and after a few 'blips' of the throttle by this auto system, it stabilises

is there not a wiring plug hidden away somewhere that should plug on to that? is it the full agu loom and how does it run when cold?

I cannot see one around it. It runs like any normal car on startup/cold - it idles a bit smoother and the revs run a bit higher (1100?) I dont know if it has a full loom, this isnt a conversaion I have done myself - bought it like it is about a year ago

Looks a bit of a bodge to me - maybe the sensor is just in there to act as a plug?

Maybe so - doesnt seem to be anything disconnected anywhere. Managed to knock the sump thismorning so it's going to be out of action for the next few days anyways.. #oops!

I'm 100% sure that's meant to be plugged in!
It's the coolant temperature sender and (as well as providing signal to temp gauge) provides the ecu with engine temp, to govern air/fuel etc. Car will run crazy rich all the time without it ;)

I would start by having a good dig around in the loom to see if the plug has been left off by mistake.

I do agree - BUT there is already a temp sensor plugged in on the block and the dash sensor seems to be working correctly as it's showing around half or under usually and slightly over if I lean on the turbo on the bypass...

I would start by having a good dig around in the loom to see if the plug has been left off by mistake.
Will have a good look tomorrow (when the sump turns up hopefully)

Question: Does anyone know of a manual for an AGU engine?

I've ordered a Vag Com aswell - i'm hoping it will show the temp readings and/or MAF readings so I can get an idea on whats going on

That will definitely need to be plugged in unless you have standalone management. The ECU needs the reading off that sensor to work out the choke and general running. It's a dual circuit sensor, one circuit running back to the dash for the clocks (which you already have) and the other running to the ECU

Interesting! so if I have the temp gauge working, then its missing something somewhere in the loom itself to the ECU. Is there any way of identifying the plug? I.e does anyone know the wire colours? looked everywhere and cannot find the manual for an AGU otherwise I would look there.

Has anyone else got this setup?

Cheers

ignore all of that, I've just noticed the temp sensor behind that one! It looks plugged in...

Can you get a part number off that beige sensor? I'll see if I can find what it does on ETKA
