Title: The traffic lights Grand Prix
Post by: charv94 on 12 May 2015, 20:43
Some of you who are members of both this forum and the R forum may have seen their "what have you embarrased thread"

May not be to everyones taste but I am still yet to have any challenge or anyone want to have a go with me, rather frustrating because when I used to own my Corsa, i could roll down to the local mcdonalds and get into multiple traffic light sprints up the a34.

Where are all these people now i can embarrass them!!!(shows my mental age!!)

Anyway, I'd be really interested to know what or who you've had a spar against and the result? (either off the line or rolling)

Lol I wondered how long it would take before this made its way across to here.

I'll throw up a few to get the ball rolling. (Bare in mind mine in was mapped to 320bhp via revo)

Fiesta ST off a roundabout down a dual carriageway, poor guy must have though he stood a chance.....but yeah, not stock :P

GTD again off the same roundabout, with the same result lol.

M5 for about 4 seconds before it demolished me into oblivion.....

Integra type R off the lights, that was close but edged it and he had to pull in behind me.(had to be done, little ricer pulled up to a merge in traffic light with only me waiting) I got a quick swipe from the wife for that one.

Since posting I've been out. remarkably I've had a challenge!

Mazda 3 with female passenger, he'd raced passed me as we trundled through nottingham.

at the lights my 3 occupants egged me into a bit of a press against him. Got a bad launch but took him quite easily.

next lights he looked quite distraught and rather embarrassed as his lady friend seemed annoyed. green light shone again i killed him this time with a good launch (used to a fast launch)

my apologies to the chap if he was intact on a date and was embarrassed

I took on a milk float at the lights and smashed it without even trying

I've only got diesel engined cars, so I won't partake in races. I don't think I could stand the shame of being beaten by someone that is obviously doing far better in life than me.

Yes you're obviously not working hard enough Simon, get off the forum and go and earn some more money then you can afford a petrol car and race people at lights

I was hoping that the 'who have you embarrassed with your (insert car)' thread would not make it over onto this place.  Oh well.

I thought that was the whole point of the fast Golf's (GTD, GTI and R), that they are classy and understated, and therefore above all this traffic light grand prix stuff. Thought that was the stomping ground of VXR's and ST's etc.

Lets be honest here, the GTI isn't going to embarrass anything particularly special, i mean it's out classed in the speed department by most competition in it's own class let alone any other.

Just relax and enjoy the ride..

Perhaps I could try harder Rebecca, or I could always 'rent' one to make people think I am Mr Big Potatoes.

And 18 year olds that lease Golf R's for a few coppers a month before getting bored of them after a couple weeks (at which point they stop posting crap on an R forum), and those that feel a Golf is a bit below them (but it was cheap at a mere £34k), not mentioning those that bought a bespoke 4wd super hatch that was hand crafted and totally different to any other Golf ever.

Just look at the (lack of) serious replies on this thread and (lack of) similar threads on here. That says enough really.

Lighten up guys.

It's only a bit of fun. Just because the gti isn't the fastest thing on the road doesn't mean it is prohibited from having a bit of fun.

Looks like I bought the wrong car in all your eyes then.

For the traffic light GP yes, for one of the best all round hot hatches on the market, no.. :)

anyway might as well delete the thread if no one is interested

I kind of know what you mean here and with the torque on offer, the thing is mightily brisk off the line (providing the dodgy S001's can find any traction). Yes, we all know the GTI isn't the fastest car in the world but I do feel it's quicker than many people 'think' it might be.

However, today I got utterly embarrassed. Just coming to the end of a 50mph average section on the M6 near Sandbach and I decided to show the new Fiesta ST behind me (who was far too close) the tailpipes. I didn't see the Nissan GT-R in my blind spot who put his boot down at the same time and shot off like I was in reverse! It sounded, and looked awesome!

...head down.  :embarrassed:

There is nothing wrong with having a blast in it but that's not what you asked.

The traffic light sprint is what i would call a blast from a standstill. Only difference would be some other car involved. Regardless, this thread went down like a lead balloon

We just don't want to lower ourselves to the standard set by our R neighbours

I think that is because most of us on here are grown ups.

9/10 just let them go just to avoid them being about 6 inches from your rear bumper

most of my off the lights antics are to get ahead of the micra that has been doing 40 in a 60 for the last 5 miles
