Hi gents, I've had some issues over the last year with my DSG! Going from 2nd into 1st there's some hesitation. The DSG oil and filter have been changed and the software has been updated but still issues!
They say one more option is to manually reprogramme the gearbox and that might fix it.
They have said if that fails to fix it I will need a new gearbox! How much could I be looking at?
Cheers,
Jim

VW just called and the new gearbox will be £4k.
Clearly I won't be paying that! What other options do I have gents?
-
i would say either get it fixed and keep it....or just sell the damn car mate!
I just spent 2k on my car, getting it fixed. My timeing chain lipped but im still motivated and want to keep mine.

Are they sure its the gearbox and not the mechatronics dsg control unit?
secondhand box from a breakers is an option as it would be a lot cheaper.
I would take it ti a VW specialist and see what they say the issue is rather than a main dealer if it was me.

When I had problem with my MK5 GTI DSG I performed a DSG reset using VAG-Com and that helped loads.
Mine would Kangaroo when coming to a stop (2nd to 1st) kind off like yours, the reset really smoothed it out, but at that point I was already bored of DSG so i sold it as i couldnt be bothered payin £2000+ if it did go.
That is also one of the main reasons I went for manual in my MK6, Plus its lots more fun to drive

Mate I don't think they know what it is! I think the easy answer is to get me to pay for a whole new gearbox!
I might take it to the local specialist but I bet that's I'll be another £100 where someone tells me they're still not sure what the problem is!!

Do you or anyone in your area have VAG-COM? Best thing to do first in a DSG reset - super easy and free to do.

The DSG software was updated and not fixed. One theory I just had from the independent VW specialist is it could be the Duel Mass Flywheel, symptoms sound right as feels like 'slack' between first and second gear pull away and down shift!
Booked in with them tomorrow to get their view!

Updating the software is not the same as resetting it. When you reset it you have to do multiple sequences of driving, like 0-100mph, 70-0mph emerncy stop, cruise in one gear for 3 miles and loads more.
It reset's the link between DSG box and the ECU. And as far as ive been told, the DSG rest should be done after every software update anyways.
You seriously might want to try it before you buy any mechanical parts mate

Thanks mate, may just do that.
The independent VW specialist is 90% sure it's the duel mass flywheel!
I'll keep this thread updated in case anyone else gets a similar problem.

Hi mate, I was getting a new car but the plans fell through as bought a new house instead!!
Update on the gearbox
VW reset the DSG and carried out adaptive road test. Got the car back and the car is much better, they advise that 500 miles it will be perfect. Seems like it's all fixed! Lucky I didn't buy a new gearbox!!!
Thanks all,
Jim

Ah nice!

Cool, if problems continue go back to an independent or auto gearbox specialist. When mine was replaced VW were somewhat vague about the full cause of the failure which of course made me suspicious...
