Still looking for a few more Mk 6 GTI owners wanted, for our magazine article
As usual at this time of year, we're just starting work on our annual GTI Special issue of Volkswagen Driver magazine, for publication before GTI International and I'm looking for a few Mk 6 GTI / R owners who'd like to write a firsthand report about their own GTI + supply a few good digital pics that we can make into a mini-article (or maybe even a major article..?)
It’s a rare chance to see your car featured in a national magazine :-)
Don't have to be radically modded or show cars, daily drivers are just as welcome :-)
For more info, please email me with a bit of basic info about / sample pic of your car to: Neil.Birkitt@autometrix.co.uk
I look forward to hearing from you – in the circumstances, final copy deadline has been extended to May 18, but sooner is always better...

I did this for last year's VW Driver mag GTI special. It was great seeing my car and words in print, and will be a nice keepsake of my mk6 after I've moved onto the next car (in about 3 months). Really pleased I went for it and would recommend to anyone thinking of doing it

I wont be doing it as I dont know if it would go down so well complaining about........
- All the Timing Chain Issues
- Numerous cabin rattles I have had to fix
- Both rear brakes shields rusting and having to remove
- Under spec'd clutch on the manuals which will need replacing soon
- A lot of people having issues with the N75 valve / Inlet Manifold
- Oil leaks from PCV / turbo
Even though the car has all these faults (I haven't suffered all these) I still enjoy the car, but not that happy to write an article about it...
-
I still have a couple of slots to fill in the Mk 6 section, if any keen Mk 6 owners can get a few pics and some notes to me over the Bank Holiday weekend. I'm not averse to publishing some constructive criticisms.. it doesn't all have to be singing praises.. ;-)
Please email me at Neil.Birkitt@autometrix.co.uk

Haha, no wouldn't be a glowing review! Glad to hear that despite issues you have still enjoyed the car and making it your own with the various mods.
Apart from a couple of annoying rattles luckily mine has been trouble free, but I've had it from new and not inherited anything from previous ownerships.
Didn't you say you were getting rid and moving to an ST Ross? Still on the cards?

Each time I've seen Neil, I've suggested a GT TDI feature to encompass all marks, but nothing yet. Maybe I'll have to have another word at Inters.

Haven't got my copy yet, but looking forward to seeing your car in there Dan, congrats

Thanks Rebecca, seeing the finished article of yours last year was the inspiration for me to do it this year!

Aw, thanks mate. I'm really glad I did it, even more so now the car will be going to make way for the R (eventually....!!). Why don't you stick a pic of your article up in here, inspire someone else?
Realised this morning I forgot to renew my VW Driver mag subscription, done it now  So I'm going to be late getting my copy.
Btw, if you are interested in that Quarts tyre dressing I mentioned - at a 50% reduction (discounted to £4.99 litre) plus their excellent snow foam at same price, I'll be posting something in the detailing section later tonight or tommorow about the discount deal.
-
Haha I may do but I'll give it a bit of time, don't wanna spoil the surprise for you! Haha
I shall definitely keep my eyes open for that deal, sounds like a bargain price! Think it's time to order some more supplies anyway, running low on leather cleaner and protection, foam applicators etc plus I may try some of that Poorboys Natural Look Dressing. It's a never ending money pit detailing isn't it?

Yep, it is
Poorboys Natural Look is the best interior cleaner  Lasts much longer than you think too. Did mine with it yesterday - smells yummy now!

Hey Dan
Just read the digital version of VW Driver GTI Special. Really nice write up and some stunning photos of your car. Tornado red looks great on the digital mag as I'm sure it does in print
I see JBircy's car is in there too, also looking great. First the detailing comp, now the mag feature - you two got a bromance going on
-
Thanks Rebecca, yeah JBirchy's was one of those cars I recognised. Must be a Tornado Red thing
