Title: DTUK FSR
Post by: Olifran on 10 May 2015, 19:08
Hi
Can anyone who has a DTUK FSR unit tell me if it's easy to connect/disconnect, for before and after dyno runs?

Thanks
Chris.

Yep, really easy. They send you a blanking connector that goes on the end of the loom in place of the box. If you put that in the car behaves exactly as stock.

Great thanks. Considering one of these with forum discount. Do you have one. Do you rate it?

Thanks
Chris

I have one and would definitely recommend it. Mine's a PP model but the gains over stock are very similar on the non PP model too.

I'm running mine in 30 degree heat at the moment with no issues so go for it!

Thanks Gnasher. Any dyno plots? Would be interested to see some before and after's. Only seen DTUK's upto now.

Chris.

No dyno plots I'm afraid - Dyno's are few and far between out here.

However the 'Butt dyno' is very impressed. Be aware that you will never get the outright gains of a remap, but it's not far off (and you'll not get the TD1 flag that some have reported with remaps).

It actully doesn't feel fast (in comparison to my previous 280BHP Astra VXR) until you look at the speedo and realise you're doing way more than you thought you were!

The box will still leave traces of being fitted so if vw look hard enough they can still see. They won't look that hard though but nothing is undetectable.

Assuming you make sure the ignition is off when you fit/remove it (to ensure no error codes are thrown up), there should be no traces of it ever being there, surely?

Happy to be corrected though!

if you disconnect the box when the ECU is/was still live then a soft code will be registered that VW can/could see. This is no different to a code that would be flagged if a sensor had taken a wobbly.. The only thing VW/Audi are interested in where warranty is concerned is TD1..

Gnasher/Andrew,
Regardless of the stock GTI figures. What are the bhp and torque gains with this unit?

Thanks
Chris

Olifran - all the info is on the website.

Andrew - currently running (ahem) 3+3 and it does fly! I don't normally run the car flat out for any period of time on it though, especially in the heat out here. That said, back in the (nice and cool) UK soon - I'll have to drag my arse up to one of your open days when I get back!

Just wondering if there's a better setting for me?

Congratulations by the way!

The website shows a gain of 86PS. Is this is due to the fact the stock car was reading high? So not 220 to 306? Just wondering what are the actual gains are?

Edit - Shark performance suggest a gain of 30bhp for the FSR which looks similar to the superchips EPC.

Old thread but if you take the gains into account rather than the figures for standard and modified then you're looking at around a 55BHP gain which is still very impressive.

Thanks. Gains on a par with a re map then.

However if you look at my other thread about turbos, it now has me a little worried....

If the turbo is going to blow then it's going to blow standard or not.
The Tuning Box doesn't pump in mental boost at low RPM's looking at the graphs, the effect is much more linear and more 'factory' as it basically amplifies the standard map.
I'd imagine the box would be a lot more clutch friendly than high boost remaps too.
