ok, this is a weird one. my car has been sitting on the driveway all weekend (it's now sunday and i haven't driven it since friday).
i went out to get something from the boot and heard this weird crackling noise coming from the off side front wheel arch, it kind of sounds like a feint un-tuned radio or a speaker that's on it's way out.
it took me about 5 minutes to locate it and it seems to be coming from the cavity between the front wheel arch and the engine bay. if you open the drivers door and look through the gap there seems to be a metal box and that's where i think the noise was coming from.
weirdly it was making the noise when i went outside and carried on for 5-10 minutes and then just stopped!
at first i thought it could have been an insect or something buzzing about in there but it definitely sounds electronic.
any ideas guys? this is a weird one!!! is it something the car does when resting and i've never heard it before?!

Iam told there is a horn attached in that area!?(a second one)?!

That is your Alarm, very common to break/stop working.

that would make sense with the second horn then... thanks for the info.
any easy way to test it out to see if it's still in working order?

Usually when you scan with vagcom it will throw an error code. My misses TDI does it from time to time. Only way to get to the unit, remove the drivers wing and you should see a box riveted to the car. You will have to drill the rivets out then the box is sealed unit. You will need to break it to open it.

Vw dealer quoted £70 for failed Horn as mentioned.
