Title: Coolant leak help

Can anyone tell me why my golf is leaking coolant (see pic). I don't have time to take it to the garage at the moment, but when I do I would like to know the best way to explain what is wrong. Think this could be expensive repair? Thanks to anyone that can help. Its a 2l 8v golf 3.5 cabriolet

If you take it to a good garage you wont need to explain much other then the fact its leaking coolant. However,  it could be a number of things.


Replace the flange, you will eventually have to do this at some point.

You need these bits:

037 121 132 E - flange
357 121 140 - plug
+ N 903 168 02 - seal
032 121 142 - retaining clip
+ 037 121 687 - seal
N 902 809 04 - bolts

Use a bit of fine wet and dry to clean the mating face of the block up as well (Mechanic should do this)

Also check the other flange on the side of the block that goes to the heater hoses, they leak as well.

Speak to Bb regarding the parts.

Thanks for your reply. Im not very mechanically minded so this has given me a better idea of what needs to be done. I've included some other pics incase theres anything else that might need done. thanks.

yes it would appear by your last pic that both flanges are seeping. shouldn't cost you more than £20 for both and they should come with an o-ring fitted. the bolts should be ok to re-use unless they are badly rotted or snapped.

I have one lying around if you're interested.
It's fairly new, was on engine only 2 weeks (then scrapped car but recovered part), so it's pretty much in like new condition
