Hi
i have ordered a new factory build vw golf gtd on 31st march 2015. Any idea how long this will take to deliver ? i was initially told 12-14 weeks but havent received a confirmed build, i called up yesterday and was told a unconfirmed build date of week 30. have any of you guys been through this process ?
-
I placed an order on 30th March, Order confirmation came through on 10th April with anticipated delivery of 17th August (Week 34).
13th April the dealer confirmed provisionally Week 21 with delivery 4 Weeks later.
VW tracker moved today to Build Week Confirmed which ties in with BW21 so looks like Week 34 was the worst case scenario advised on the initial order form.
I think it's a common issue and anyone on here will tell you the same thing.
There's numerous threads on this topic and it seems there's various reasons for it. Dealerships exceeding order allowances, spec of your car etc.
I'd advise ringing your dealer and asking for your unique order number, then you can spend hours watching the VW Tracker like I and many others do!
Out of interest, what have you ordered?

Probably about 95% on here
There are loads of threads about time it takes etc. Have a nosey about and you'll see. Alos have a look in the TDI section for delivery times of the GTD http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?board=128.0
Have a look at this thread, more so the end of the thread as it will give you an idea when folk ordered and when they collected. http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=258984.0

-
I ordered my GTD on 26/02/15 and just got a confirmed BW21 text this morning. So i am looking at 16 weeks from order to collection.

You get a confirmed build week 4 weeks before its due to be built.
-
i understand that but considering we ordered at practically the same time and my car is just a basic gtd no added extras , id have thought id get a build date too, but i guess its do with a lot of different factors etc, just annoying ahving to wait as im checking the tracker everyday haha
-
It doesn't work like that unfortunately. You have dealer allocation to take into consideration.
-
yes i know, just hate having to wait as i dont understand why it should take 5/6 months for a new car with no extras. its crazy that vw do this. i know there are different factors involved eg allocation etc arghhh
-
I've just had a look on the tracker, i ordered the GTI on the 13th of April and it's changed to confirmed today!! looks like I'm gonna miss the week 22 changes! was gonna add keyless again as well...
-
thats what i was hoping a build from week 23 onwards, really hope i get my build date soon haha, im jealous of all you people receiving your build date
-
Jesus you'd have been slitting your wrists if you'd waited as long as I did for mine in 2013. Ordered on 1st April 2013 and driven away from dealers on 26th September 2013 and that's after being told it will be no longer than 12 weeks!
-

And before that, even longer delays with some mk6's; it was an 8 month wait for me from placing the order and taking delivery of my mk6 GTD back in 2010/2011.
-
My R order is 7 months and 4 days old today. Supposed to be getting built next week, 3 weeks to deliver via Tyne if I'm lucky? That'll be 8 months.
Ronald at VW UK rang me yesterday, not sure whether it was to tell me good or bad news. Had to ask him to ring me back as I was heading off for a job interview as he rang, and he never rang back. I'm in Mexico on holiday today (just arrived at Riu Palace Riviera Maya), so I'll not get a reply til I get home.
-
7 months and 4 days from which order
-
ouch 7 months is a long wait. Its shocking that by todays standards you have to wait months for a new car, when in reality they only take 4 days to build. VW really needs to improve their service in this area. you shoudlt ahve to wait more than 3 months tops.
-
Why say three months? Why not three weeks?
Joking aside - at the end of the day they take as long as they take - you just order in good time, simple as that

Exactly. They are long lead times but rightly or wrongly, that's the way it is. It was no different with the mk5 and mk6. So you have to factor that in when considering whether to order or not. I wanted my R for Sept so worked back and ordered end Jan allowing worst case scenario of 7 months wait. If you really want the car then you just have to suck it up, or you go elsewhere - BMW and get a car in 5 weeks
-
There are loads of production reasons why the lead times might be as they are - dealer allocations aside.
I'd be interested to hear what VW claim their designed time frame is, although I doubt that they would ever reveal that.
All I can say is that VAG must be really confident that their product is desirable when their German competitors can deliver in a fraction of their lead times.
-
BMW and Opel should be sat working out what VW are doing right that makes people want to wait six months for a shopping trolley.
-
The VW badged vehicles alone (ie ignoring the rest of the VAG group) is more sales than Opel, BMW and Mercedes combined.
Add in the Audi, SEAT, Skoda and Porka sales and you will see why VAG is pretty much the largest car manufacturer today...
Thats probably answering why the lead times are long actually...

Leaving aside Bentley, Lamborghini & Porsche, VAG had just over 20% of the UK market (way ahead of various competitors), giving them both volume brands and brands that they can load profitable options on to. I think I read somewhere that VW (the marque) problem worldwide is that the profit margin on their volume stuff is wafer thin, but high value margins on Audi & Porsche are delivering high returns for the overall group
Audi - 6.42%, SEAT - 2.16%, Skoda - 3.05%, VW - 8.67%
Companies like Fiat, Renault & Peugeot just can't keep up with VAG buying power and production volume at present

I ordered a Gtd through a third party leasing company mid Feb, just checked on VW site and its showing at stage 5 of 7 - shes built and on her way to uk.
I have been advised of a May 15th ish delivery! so around 12 weeks in total!
The main dealers were quoting lead times between 20 and 30 weeks!
-
mine has been 5 weeks so far and still at stage 2 so i cant see it being 12 weeks :(
-
My GTD was ordered at the end of Jan by leasing company with dealer in Doncaster....still "with the factory" on the tracker!!!! its been on order 14 weeks and no movement its so frustrtating!
And they cant tell me anything!
-
websta I gotta feeling mine will prob be the same as yours, I may just ask to wait till September for a new plate.
-
Frustrating when i hear people have ordered in Feb and now have the cars!!!
NOT FAIR!!
-
Most February orders should really have a confirmed build week by now
-
i think it would be good if after one month vw gave you a build date, at least that way you can prepare yourself. Just sitting hear looking at the tracker everyday is killing me haha

Updates seem to be given on Fridays mostly and you wont get a build week until 4 weeks before. Strange thing i noticed is that my build week is the week commencing 17th May which suggests that Sunday is the first day of the week in Germany.
-
WOAH EVERYONE !!
Sounds like you've all been going through what i had...
I ordered mine on the 13th of january 2015
Mine took at least 16-18 weeks to move from with the factory, once you have a build week confirmed that is normally about 4 weeks before.
Mine got built on week 18 (27th april 2015) & it is now in transit & on the ship.
Im looking at the mid to end of may.
Iv ordered;
GTD in carbon grey
With the upgraded alloys
Manual
Shouldn't be too long now ! :undecided:

-
hope they go on strike for a week
-
WHY LOL ?
-
So I am build week 22 lol
-
I was told last week by my dealer that I was currently on BW22, I'm guessing that is no longer the case as by the reports above it should have confirmed yesterday on the tracker?
-
this maybe a stupid question but why don't you want it for week 21 ? why week 22 ?
-

Because the new changes come into force from BW22, eg. bigger sat nav screen for the DNS, keyless as standard etc.
-
My GTD has been on order approx 16-18 weeks and still saying "With the factory"
GODDAMMMMIT
-
so if I ordered a GTD end of march and haven't received a build date yet, im guessing my build will be after week 21, can anyone please tell me what changes and what new extras ill get as standard ? thanks :)

If my experience is anything to go by, your building week will be 41 let alone 21 mate!!!
-
Lol - I would expect early August hand-over for a late March order - worth just waiting for the new plate....
