Title: LED tail lights
Post by: gaurav_aidasani on 23 April 2015, 21:11
I know this topic has been covered a few times, but I'm having a hard time finding the historic threads!

After owning the car for a year, I've finally found some time to start modifying it. The first preference is LED tail lights.

I came across these which seem like a good price, however they're set up for LHD. How easy is it to switch it to RHD? Is it just a simple matter of swapping the fog light and reverse light around and thats it?

Appreciate the help!

Yeah I've come across them too but they're not budging on price. The ones from Dectane are £100 cheaper including delivery

I would recommend going for these mate, or paying a little more and going genuine OEM. I have the bi-xenons with LEDs on the front of mine and they are flawless. Build quality is brilliant.

I have changed mine from LHD to RHD drive. It is a bit tricky and you do have to snap a bit out, just need a bit of patient and its all good.

I got my lights from these guys aswell, the light are great.

Big BUT!....becuase they are left hand drive lights, when using fog lamp - reverse light comes on
When reversing, your fog lamps come on.

Kinda hard to explain, you have to gently smash out the red reverse light surround, then fit a white bulb, its quite easy when you know how to do it.

maybe a video on youtube?

Oh really? So its just a matter of changing the bulb?

Dectane sent me a letter with pictures on changing two wires around on the electronic dashboard. i went to two electricians and they didnt want to take the risk. If its just a matter of changing a ligh bulb, ill take a look on the net.

Thanks for the idea mate!

If you just change the colour of the bulbs, surely that means you'll have a fog light on the near side and a reverse light on the offside?

Yes but these lights are left hand drive, so the bulbs are the wrong way anyway!

I bought a set of LHD lights for my Mk6 last year, but sold them on eventually as couldn't get them to work.

In the UK, the foglight needs to be on the off-side, otherwise the car will fail the MOT test.  The lights I used (from eBay) could have a different coloured bulb added to one side, however (I can't remember which) had an LED molded in, so couldn't be changed.

I would recommend you get a correct RHD set of lights, with the fog light on the offside (drivers side).

They are not affordable, most of them on ebay are the LHD lights but the bulbs are changed around!

Has anyone fitted the LED rears from Xenonz?

Whats the fitment like? Any bad gaps between the lights or issues?

Pictures would be good

Xnenons are a rip off. They buy the lights from china which cost around £300 to buy yourself.

I got dark smoked lights from a guy in wembley for £250 brand new, but they are LHD. Hes always bringing over lights in containers and sells them on ebay.
