Title: Speeding fine
Post by: remlapeel on 22 April 2015, 23:20
Hey guys, as you might know I got caught speeding.....anyway I decided to look up the speeds Norfolk will allow for a speed awareness course, and turns out Norfolk is very lenient.

50mph in a 30mph zone
60mph in a 40mph zone
76mph in a 50mph zone
86mph in a 60mph zone
96mph in a 70mph zone

In Dorset where I used to live, the cap was 36mph in a 30mph zone.

Wish we had speed awareness courses in Scotland, I can see me getting in a lot of trouble when my car arrives, had one out on a test drive and was doing 92mph in a 60mph road without trying.

Some areas in Scotland do have speed awareness courses don't they. I know a couple of people who have been caught over the border and they got offered courses.

I think we're going to gradually see insurance companies asking if you have done a speed awareness course and penalising you if you have. I have been sorting my renewal this week and all of the EUI Group companies (Admiral, Bell, Elephant etc) were significantly cheaper than the competition, but your premium rises by around 13% if you have done a course. I expect other companies will latch on to this in time.

Frustratingly there doesn't seem to be any cut off either, whereas points drop off your licence the question question was "have you ever done a speed awareness course?".

I think you'll find that the speeds you have quoted are in fact the ones where you automatically go to court instead of a fixed penalty. Usually the criteria for a speed awareness course is 10% +9mph so...

42 in a 30
53 in a 40
64 in a 50
75 in a 60
86 in a 70

Anything above that and it's 3 points & £100 unless you hit the speeds you mentioned. Then good luck with the magistrates...
