Title: Sport Mode
Post by: benmartingolf on 16 April 2015, 13:15
Hi all,

This maybe a stupid question but thought id ask hopefully il have my car at the end of next month.

I have ordered a DSG GTI and wondered when I put the car into sport mode on the gear stick does this change the car in the same way putting the car into sport mode through in infotainment system?

Im just curious and sorry if this is a silly question i don't have one to play with yet!!!!

Thanks

Ben

Hi mate,

No doing it on the gearstick simply changes the gearbox into Sport. The other settings will stay in the mode you already have it in.

Put it in Sport mode through the infotainment system, and the gearbox also switches into Sport as part of it's settings (until you switch the car off, then it defaults into standard D mode)

Hope this helps!

Jon

Fantastic, Thanks Jon

Cant wait to get it now. What else does Sport mode through the infotainment change?

Cheers

It also switches on the dreaded Soundaktor!

It also weights up the steering, it'll stiffen the suspension if you have DCC fitted.

I must admit, I actually quite like the sound in Sport mode - bit more throaty than standard.

So let me get this straight, the car's soundaktor is only on during S mode and not when in normal D mode or Tiptronic? I don't have the optional DCC but this would really change a lot as I rarely drive in S and prefer the Tiptronic. Sorry for the vague information I have on my own car lol.

It's on during normal mode just a reduced amount. I think it's on 25% in normal mode and 100% in sport mode. One thing to remember about the soundaktor is it's as fake as Jordan's tits, and no one outside can hear it. You may as well play s cd of V8s than listen to it......mine has been disconnected lol

When you put the car in sport via the infotainment if the sh!t or bust nature of the sport mapping on the DSG wears a little thin, if you pull back on the gear lever it switches the DSG map back to normal but leaves the rest of the cars settings in sport.

I don't see the issue to be honest. Yes it's fake. It's the only way to make a 2 litre 4 cylinder engine sound half decent and I think VW have accomplished it very well. It's not obvious at all that the sound is 'fake' and actually sounds nice in my opinion...just the same as the R only sounds good when the sound actuator is active. Who cares what people can hear outside the car? I'm sat inside it and want to enjoy the driving experience.

Couldn't agree more.  There's a lot of hated towards the sound actuator on here and on the R forums, but I love it and have it on full all the time   Plus if you have your window open and nail it from 1st gear, into 2nd, then 3rd the DSG 'farts' sound brilliant - couldn't care less that its fake!

I like it too, but would really like to be able to set individual mode profile with it to on/off or better still a volume.

I too like it. It would be nice to have a sliding scale we could access though.

I hate it, I have mine disconnected and have my intake make a much better noise instead, but I don't like fake boobs either though. How about you guys lol

I'm not a fan of fake boobs either.  But if I had a pair shoved in my face 'motor boat' style I would probably love it.  Sound actuator works under the same premise!

So let me get this straight, if your car took off its top (like a cabriolet presumably) and jiggled its soundaktor in your face, then you wouldn't have a problem?
